Provost’s Report:

  • Thank you for faculty’s support and well-wishes during his recovery
  • Discussion of the progress of the CAP
    • Faculty should continue having conversations as we move forward with the CAP, and the Provost is open to such conversations
    • Expressed intent for the CAP process to be transparent, and to follow the process outlined by the Provost several years ago.
    • Goal for each school to develop bylaws to determine how conveners and lead conveners are chosen

  • Liberal Arts Curriculum Task Force has submitted their report; Provost presentation on Oct. 22 will go over action items from that report and progress on implementation of the CAP

  • Remembrance of Ramapo student Nick Danbrowney
  • Good news on state funding, including deferred maintenance funds
  • NJASCU retreat over the summer, President Jebb met with state legislators and each gubernatorial candidate
  • Ramapo has a student interview for a Rhodes scholarship
  • Student retention is up by 5% compared to last year
  • Launching a campaign feasibility study
  • Reiteration of priorities for this year:
    • Implementation of CAP
    • Artificial Intelligence
    • Student well-being
    • Talent management and strategic partnerships
  • Introduction of Dr. Robert Heinrich (Stockton), who is shadowing President Jebb this academic year as part of the ACE Fellowship program

Provost’s Report:

  • Mike Unger is joining the Provost’s Office full-time for two years as Acting Assistant Provost for Assessment and Accreditation.
  • Faculty should prepare for change this coming AY. Conclusions and recommendations of CAP-related task forces will guide changes moving forward

Announcements:

  • Enrollment Update
    Chris Romano, VP for Strategic Enrollment, Outreach and Engagement

    • Discussion of headwinds facing enrollment. Noted that files are not yet frozen, and so today’s numbers are approximate.
    • Up 11% in applications (9900 apps) for Fall 2025
    • New class enrollment is 1108, although de-registration has yet to occur (likely causing this number to drop a bit).
    • 5% increase in enrollment (headcount) compared to last year, which means that retention is trending upwards
    • 135 incoming EOF students (almost double compared to two years ago, and largest class ever like last year)
    • 47% of incoming class are first generation students
    • Final report will be shared on October 15 when files are frozen
    • Ramapo is on track to exceed enrollment percentages to qualify as an HSI (will be confirmed after frozen file).

Provost’s Report:

  • Relayed remarks from President Jebb (not in attendance)
    • Reaffirmation of Ramapo’s values and mission
    • State budget is expected to be substantially reduced for next year; Ramapo is working to diversify revenue sources.
  • Liberal Arts Curriculum Task Force has been finalized, will be formally charged next week.
  • AI Consulting Group has produced a list of recommendations for use of AI in TLC, as well as an ethics statement. (link)
    Note: Questions regarding the separate College-wide AI Statement were directed to Rob Doster and addressed as follows.

    • Statement was designed to apply primarily to staff and administrators.
    • Key concern is that data including privileged or personal information must not be uploaded to AI, where it becomes public data.

Faculty Assembly President’s Report:

  • FA Calendar and FAEC Google calendar are now completely up-to-date.
  • Diversity Convocation will be held on Feb. 26 at 3pm.
  • Anyone in charge of a student research symposium or similar event in the Spring semester should email the FA President, so that a complete list can be posted.
  • Faculty Handbook revision progress update; Sabbatical policy is being targeted for revision with the Provost and President’s support.
  • Next Faculty Scholarship Symposium is scheduled for Feb. 19 at 10:30 am. The topic is “Sabbatical Showcase”.
  • FAEC is working with the Provost on a formal policy on student travel (“chaperone policy”).
  • FAEC is working with the Provost on a plan to formally recognize outstanding adjuncts.
  • President Jebb has announced open office hours for Spring ’25:

Provost’s Report:

  • Thank you to participants in the AI Consulting Group, whose work will inform some of the Teaching and Learning Core’s approach to AI.
  • An AI Ethics Policy for teaching and learning has been produced, and will be published soon.
  • TECHFEST will take place on March 12; focus on artificial intelligence.
  • The Academic Structures Task Force and Conveners/Convening Groups Task Force submitted their reports to the Provost in December. Provost will hold meetings with faculty to discuss the reports sometime in the next few weeks.
  • Research and Engagement Academy starting next week with 6 Fellows and 2 Mentors, focused on how to acquire grants to support scholarship.
  • Travel policy has been drafted for student field trips, etc. Draft is currently waiting to go through one level of legal review, before being publicly available.
  • New Study Abroad Director starting next week. Joint reception next Wednesday 1/29, 8:30 – 9:30 pm in the York room, to welcome new Study Abroad and ER Directors.
  • Reminder for faculty to participate in no-show reporting.
