The School of Arts, Humanities, and Education (AHE) is a meaningful constellation of academic programs connected by a shared commitment to creativity, inquiry, communication, and human understanding. Here, students work alongside dedicated faculty and staff who are accomplished educators, scholars, artists, and practitioners. Together, we explore ideas, challenge assumptions, create new work, and engage with the questions that shape our lives, our communities, and our world.
At Ramapo, education is rooted in the liberal arts and strengthened through experience. We believe meaningful learning happens when ideas are put into practice. Through coursework, creative activity, research, community engagement, field experiences, internships, and student teaching, students actively participate in the work they have come to study. These experiences deepen knowledge, build confidence, and prepare graduates to contribute thoughtfully and effectively in their professions and communities.
The School aspires to be a leader in innovative and interdisciplinary liberal arts education. We encourage students to make connections across disciplines, recognizing that some of the most meaningful discoveries emerge when different perspectives intersect. Whether pursuing studies in the arts, humanities, or education, students develop the intellectual agility, intercultural awareness, and sense of purpose necessary to navigate an increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing world.
The disciplines represented within AHE help us make sense of the human experience and our place within it. They challenge us to think critically, communicate clearly, understand perspectives different from our own, and engage thoughtfully with the complexities of contemporary life. Whether preparing future educators, creating art, examining histories and cultures, producing media, exploring literature and languages, or wrestling with enduring philosophical questions, students cultivate practices that remain valuable long after graduation: curiosity, creativity, adaptability, empathy, and informed civic engagement.
Above all, our programs encourage students to remain curious. Some of the most transformative experiences in college happen beyond the boundaries of a major through exploration in courses that spark your interest and present unfamiliar perspectives. Students can study abroad, pursue a minor, attend performances and lectures, and embrace opportunities that challenge them to see the world through various lenses.
Your time in AHE is an opportunity not only to prepare for a career, but to discover what inspires you, what challenges you, and what fuels your passions.
