Welcome to the Nursing Programs at Ramapo College! We are now located in the new 36,000 sq. ft. Adler Center for Nursing Excellence and we take great pride in our programs and students. The highly-acclaimed and expanding nursing programs enjoy state-of-the-art labs that enhance the education of Ramapo College students in the nursing and sciences. Ramapo’s undergraduate nursing program has had significant increases in enrollment since its inception in 1993, a Master of Science in Nursing Education was added in 2002 and two new tracks in Nurse Administration and Family Nurse Practitioner were approved in 2016. More than 460 students are enrolled in all nursing programs and use the facilities of the Adler Center for Nursing Excellence on a daily basis.
The Adler Center for Nursing Excellence features three simulation rooms where students learn to address emergencies involving their computer-simulated patients. Nursing faculty recreate medical scenarios that play out each day in hospitals, making each patient encounter unique, and students are able to receive invaluable feedback from their instructors on how to improve their skills and reaction times.
A Nursing Skills Lab teaches students the necessary basics of nursing, including physical assessment of a patient and the many procedures that make up skilled nursing. The Adler Center also features an Anatomy and Physiology Lab, computer labs and general purpose classrooms. A conference room, a café with gallery space and an assistant dean’s suite are incorporated into the plans.
We offer all of our students intimate attention and guidance, and have prestigious clinical partnerships that are unique in Nursing Education. Our clinical partner, The Valley Hospital, has been designated as a Magnet Hospital by the American Nurses Credentialing Center. Such a designation certifies such hospitals as Centers of Excellence in Nursing. This partnership allows students in our programs to experience nursing in one of the best nursing departments in the country.
Ramapo College has four Nursing Program offerings:
- The Generic Nursing (BSN) program for individuals who are preparing to become a nurse
- The RN to BSN track for nurses with their RN license returning to school for the BSN degree
- The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) programs with 3 track options, for BSN-prepared nurses advancing in their careers:
- The Doctorate in Nursing Practice (DNP) is a post-Master’s program designed for nurses seeking a terminal Nursing degree. The program launched in Fall 2020!
Graduates of all three programs are working across the United States in various areas of nursing. Some graduates are working within our own program. The opportunities are endless. One measurable outcome of the pre-licensure program is the first time pass rate on the NCLEX (National Council Licensing Exam). Our students do very well. Rates are published at www.njconsumeraffairs.gov/nur/Pages/NCLEX-RN.aspx. Additionally, all graduates of the past 3 years have received nursing positions within one year of graduation with an average of 90% graduating within four years. Our MSN in Nursing Education graduates have also achieved success with over 20% of our total graduates attending doctoral degree programs within 5 years of graduation. Other measures of success (PDF)
