Queer Peer Services

Queer Peer Services has been established in order to:

  • Advocate for the LGBTQIA+ and allied students, faculty, and staff.
  • Create a safe, diverse, nonjudgmental environment where queer and transgender individuals can feel comfortable being themselves.
  • Educate the campus community about queer and trans issues, including the deconstruction of stereotypes, as to invoke a sense of empathy in those who do not identify as queer or trans.
  • Act as a liaison between the students and the administration on diversity issues and bias-related incidents.
  • Facilitate and host support groups for queer and trans individuals struggling with any issues they may face as a result of their personal identity.
  • Encourage dialogue between diverse peoples to foster a more deeply-connected community.
  • Inspire within individuals a sense of both personal pride and political passion that students will be able to carry with them in all future endeavors.
  • Create programming for events such as Queer and Trans History Month, Pridefest, Discussion Groups, and Queer and Trans Mixers.
