Liberal Studies and Teacher Education

The Teacher Education program is perfectly compatible with a Liberal Studies major.

For example, a Liberal Studies major who chooses the Italian Studies track might also complete the Teacher Education program in order to become an Italian teacher at the elementary or secondary level. One Ramapo College alumnus is already working in a prestigious Bergen county district doing exactly that (Liberal Studies Alumni).

There are other examples of combining Liberal Studies with Teacher Education. Those interested in elementary education might use the Liberal Studies major to study history, literature, and biology – key areas that today’s teachers must master in the PRAXIS exams.

Those interested in completing the Liberal Studies major may contact Professor Lisa Cassidy (lcassidy@ramapo.edu) to discuss the options. Those with questions about Teacher Education may contact Professor Alex Urbiel (aurbiel@ramapo.edu).
