Fall 2024 Housing Selection Process

 

Village Quad Two Closure:

Due to a capital planning project scheduled in the Village, Quad two and Stairwells 20 and 21 in Quad three (of the ViIlage) will not be available for students to select from during the housing selection process.  Please be prepared to make alternate selections.

Please note, due to the ongoing construction in Quad two, residents selecting Quad one or Quad three may be exposed to construction noise. 

Individuals:

Individuals WILL NOT be assigned an admittance time this year.  Although you will be required to complete Step Two, you will not advance to Step Three.  All students who declare themselves as individuals will be placed in housing over the summer.  You will have access to log in to the housing portal to view your Fall 2024 housing assignment at the beginning of August.

Room Reassignment:

Due to the number of beds offline in the Village, we are unable to offer Room Reassignment as a part of the Housing Selection Process.  However, students will have the opportunity to participate in the open Room Change Process that will take place upon check-in for the Fall semester.

DETAILS ABOUT OUR PROCESS

  • Admittance time priority will be given to all four-person groups
    • followed by all two-person groups.
    • For example, a 4-person group of sophomores would have an admittance time before a 2-person group of seniors.
  • You may select from available housing options during the time of your admittance time.
  • The Housing Selection Information sessions are MANDATORY for First-year and Transfer students who are new to housing for Fall 2023 and Spring 2024.  All new first-year or transfers need to attend ONE of two sessions offered.

Online Housing Selection Process

The Online Housing Selection Process is a three step process for current resident students to reserve a room in on campus housing for the Academic Year 2024-2025.

2 and 4 person groups are not allowed to pull anyone up who has fewer credits than they do and is not in their class status to select at their designated time. If you want to live with someone who has fewer credits than you and is not within your class status, you will need to select housing at their admittance time. An email will be sent to all eligible residents on February 29, 2024 that indicates your earned credits.  Please be sure to communicate your credit category with your intended group members PRIOR to Step Two. It is the responsibility of all group members to be aware of each other’s earned credits and class status prior to creating your group during Step Two.

Housing Selection Order

Timeline

Admittance times will be determined by the number of earned credits at the end of the Fall 2023 semester and group size.

Admittance time priority will be given to all four-person groups

  • followed by all two-person groups.
  • For example: a 4-person group of sophomores would have an admittance time before a 2-person group of seniors.

If you experience technical difficulty during Step Two or Step Three of the online Housing Selection Process, you must contact the Office of Residence Life immediately at 201-684-7461 during the College’s hours of operation (Monday through Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm).

Three Step Process

Housing Selection Step One

You must have submitted your non-refundable $500.00 housing deposit to be eligible to participate in the process.

Housing Selection Step Two

Prior to Step Two:

  1. Decide if you will participate in Housing Selection as an individual (by yourself) or a predetermined 2 or 4 person group.
  2. Secure roommates to complete groups of 2 or 4 if going through the process as a group.  Decide who will be the group leader.  The group leader will be the only person who can select the housing assignment for the group. All 2 or 4 person groups must designate a group leader.
  3. You may wish to look for roommates to complete groups of 2 or 4 by attending one or more of the Roommate Mixers hosted by the Office of Residence Life to meet and mingle.
  4. You may also utilize the housing portal if you would like to search for others who are looking for a roommate.  In order to use this feature, during Step 2, you must click on the “Search for Roommates by Profile” OR if you would like the portal to suggest roommates click on the “Suggest Roommates” button. For either of these options selected, you will have the ability to request them, send them a message and/or view their profile.
  5. Residents with a documented disability who wish to request an accommodation must contact and affiliate with the Office of Specialized Services no later than March 15, 2024.
  6. Review your credits as of the end of the Fall 2023 semester (the current Spring 2024 semester does not count) – if there is a discrepancy, please provide the Office of Residence Life with the correct information along with documentation to prove the discrepancy by emailing reslife@ramapo.edu before March 8, 2024.

STEP TWO: March 5 through March 14 (Declaration)

Every person who completed Step ONE must do the following:

  1. Complete the online Housing Selection application before 10:00 am on March 14.
  2. Declare yourself in the portal as an individual or a group (only groups of 2 or 4 are allowed).
  3. If you are in a group, make sure the group is verified before 10:00 am on March 14.
  4. Sign your Housing Contract Terms and Conditions.

Step TWO must be completed by March 14, 2024  before 10:00 am in order to access Step THREE.

If your entire group is not verified by the March 14, 2024 deadline, your group members may be separated and placed as individuals over the summer.  Unverified groups are separated to ensure the continued flow of the housing selection process. 

If You Declared as a 2 or 4 Person Group:

  1. The group leader will create and name your group.
  2. The group leader will share the group name and password with the group.
  3. All group members must log into the Housing Portal and select the option “Join Group”.
  4. If your group members are all going to be 21 by May 1, 2025, and wish to live in alcohol allowed housing, every single group member must declare ALCOHOL ALLOWED in order to obtain alcohol allowed housing. Additionally, all group members would need to comply with Alcohol Allowed Housing Application process in the Fall.
  5. After all members have joined the group, the group leader must VERIFY the group to officially validate it. Each group member will receive an e-mail verification once the group leader has verified the group.  No changes will be allowed after the group is VERIFIED.
  6. Each group member must log in and sign their Housing Contract Terms and Conditions once group is verified.

If You Declared Yourself as an Individual:

As an individual, you WILL NOT receive an admittance time. Although you will be required to complete Step Two, you will not advance to Step Three.  All students who declare themselves as individuals will be placed in housing by the Office of Residence Life over the summer.  You will have access to log in to the housing portal to view your Fall 2024 housing assignment at the beginning of August.

If you will be 21 by May 1, 2025 and wish to reside in alcohol allowed housing, you MUST select “alcohol allowed” during the alcohol allowed housing step.  Please keep in mind that as an individual we are unable to determine if there will be any alcohol allowed housing options available at the time of placement. All students wishing to reside in Alcohol Allowed housing would need to comply with Alcohol Allowed Housing Application process in the Fall.

You will have access to the housing portal in early August to view your housing assignment.

If You Would Like to Search For A Roommate to Complete Your 2 or 4 Person Group:

During Step 2, if you would like the portal to suggest roommates click on the “Suggest Roommates” button OR if you would like to search for others who are looking for a roommate please click on the “Search for Roommates by Profile”. For either of these options selected, you will have the ability to request them, send them a message and/or view their profile. In order to have the ability to search for others, they must have at least started their housing application.

Incomplete Groups

Incomplete groups are groups without the required number of participants. Examples would include a group of 3 who declared themselves as a 4 person group, or an individual who has declared themselves as a group of 2 or 4. The group leader will not be able to verify an incomplete group.

Your incomplete group will be separated and you will be placed by the Office of Residence Life over the summer.  As an individual, you WILL NOT receive an an admittance time. Although you will be required to complete Step Two, you will not advance to Step Three. You will have access to log in to the housing portal to view your Fall 2024 housing assignment at the beginning of August.

Housing Selection Step Three

If you missed Step One or Step Two, you will not have access to Step Three and must complete and submit an Alternate Housing Application.

STEP THREE: April 2 through April 10 (Room Selection)

If You Are in a Group:

  1. You must have completed STEP ONE AND STEP TWO in order to participate in STEP THREE.
  2. Be sure to check your e-mail starting March 27, 2024  at 2:30 pm for your admittance time. If your admittance time is not received by 10:00 am on March 28th, e-mail reslife@ramapo.edu.
  3. Only your group leader will log into the Housing Portal at your assigned admittance time and select an exact housing location for all group members.
  4. Your group leader must select a meal plan (if applicable) after selecting the housing location.
  5. Your group leader must inform all group members that the housing location was selected and then all group members must log back into the Housing Portal and select a meal plan (if applicable). Those who are required to select a meal plan and do not make a selection will automatically be the assigned Simple 7.
  6. Once all group members have selected a meal plan (if applicable), the process is complete. 

If You Are an Individual:

  1. You must have completed STEP ONE AND STEP TWO.
  2. As an individual, you WILL NOT  receive an an admittance time. Although you will be required to complete Step Two, you will not advance to Step Three.  All students who declare themselves as individuals will be placed in housing by the Office of Residence Life over the summer.  You will have access to log in to the housing portal to view your Fall 2024 housing assignment the beginning of August.
  3. Students who declare themselves as Individuals will select a meal plan upon completing Step Two of the Housing Selection Process.  Should you not select a meal plan, you will automatically be assigned the Simple 7 meal plan.  Should Simple 7 not be your preferred choice of meal plan, please email your choice to mealplan@ramampo.edu by April 10, 2024.  
  4. Once you have completed Step Two, the process is complete for Individuals.  

IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT STEP THREE

  • Once your admittance time begins, you have until the last day of the online housing selection process to choose your housing location. However, since popular housing areas close up quickly you should log into the Housing Portal at your admittance time.
  • If you go over your allotted five minutes, the next assigned admittance time could potentially take your desired location. For every five minutes that passes another group is logging into the portal. Therefore, the longer it takes you to make your selection, the chances that you will get your preferred choice of housing decreases.
  • Your housing assignment is not guaranteed and the applications for all group members remains incomplete until all members of the group have logged back into the housing portal and selected a meal plan (if applicable).
  • Failure to complete this step may result in the removal of your housing assignment.
If You Missed Steps One, Two Or Three

Students who DID NOT complete Steps One, Two or Three and are still interested in housing for Fall 2024 must complete an Alternate Housing Application and submit the $500 non-refundable housing deposit by May 14, 2024 (if you DID NOT pay the $500 housing deposit already). Alternate Housing Applications will be available on the Residence Life website on April 15, 2024 and must be submitted electronically by May 14, 2024. Housing Charges (posted as HTBA – “Housing To Be Announced”) will be posted to your student account on or about July 11, 2024.   HTBA charges are billed at our highest housing rate. Tuition/housing bills are due prior to finding out your actual housing location, therefore, should you be placed in an area that is priced differently, you may be entitled to a refund.

After May 14, 2024 if you did not complete the Alternate Housing Application, you will forfeit the opportunity to be guaranteed housing.  Then, you must follow the reapplication process.  This process includes submitting a $200 non-refundable housing deposit (if you DID NOT pay the $500 housing deposit already) and a commuter housing application (applications available by contacting the Office of Residence Life).  Once your application is received, your name will be placed on the Commuter Housing List for Fall 2024.
