COUNSELOR WORKSHOP SERIES

The Counselor Workshop Series provides an opportunity for counselors to discuss current trends in college admissions and how Ramapo College is addressing these trends. The general agenda for our workshops consist of two presentations and discussion with a short break between sessions, lunch with college staff and administrators as well as an optional campus tour.

TEACHER EDUCATION AND INTERACTIVE LEARNING IN THE HELPING PROFESSIONS

Workshop 1: Teacher Education and Preparing the Teachers of Tomorrow
Led by Dr. Adam Freid, Assistant Dean of the Teacher Education Program at Ramapo College, this workshop will address updates from the NJ Department of Education and how through our various educational partnerships and our 4+1 BS/MA Special Education program, we are preparing new teachers and pivoting to meet the needs of working in the K-12 field in NJ and beyond.

Workshop 2: Hand-On Learning with Care
Ramapo College’s School of Social Science and Human Services and Social Work Program will provide a glimpse at trends in mental health careers and training as well as how Ramapo is preparing the next generation of social workers, psychologists, and social services leaders through hands-on fieldwork and internship opportunities.

SCHOOL OF CONTEMPORARY ARTS: A FOCUS ON THE CREATIVE ECONOMY IN THE NJ/NY METRO AREA

Workshop 1: Making Movies: Exploring Filmmaking at Ramapo College
This workshop will take a deep dive into our new Filmmaking major, with its concentrations in Directing, Post Production and Screenwriting, and how our faculty are helping students prepare for the growing film and creative industry boom in the New Jersey/New York metro area.

Workshop 2: BA in Art: Picking a Major in the Arts with a Human-Centered Approach
This workshop will explore academic options at Ramapo College in the field of art, specifically our Visual Communication Design major, Visual Arts major, Communications major and our unique “create your own” contract major in the arts. We will discuss the difference between a BFA and a BA in the arts and what a BA at a liberal arts college allows students to do in their academic and professional journey.

ANNUAL COUNSELOR LUNCHEON

February 27, 2026

Our annual luncheon is a conference-style event that focuses on academic and college updates, hot topics in college admissions, an admissions overview, the announcement of this year’s Nancy Jaegar Award for Counseling Excellence recipient and an optional campus tour. A continental breakfast and lunch will be served as part of the event. Attendees will be able to network with counselors from across the tri-state area as well as with our academic deans, faculty, campus leaders and Admissions staff. Professional development hours will be provided to attendees.
