U.S. News & World Report

Ramapo College remains a top institution in the Best Regional Universities North category, being named as one of only two New Jersey public institutions listed in the top 10, and ascending several spots to the #28 ranking among all schools in the same region, as determined in the 2022-2023 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges. The results affirm Ramapo’s value as an institution that combines high-quality programs, affordability, and dedication to student success.

Ramapo College is one of only two New Jersey programs among 25 institutions in the Regional Public Universities North category to earn a Best Undergraduate Teaching designation, which acknowledges how our faculty and administrators are committed to teaching undergraduate students in a high-quality manner.

Ramapo’s outstanding Bachelor of Nursing (BSN) program ascended exponentially in the national ranking, landing in the top 43 percent nationwide.

Ramapo College was also again recognized for its commitment to veteran students, placing 13th for Best Colleges for Veteran Students.

Over the past two decades, the U.S. News college rankings, which group schools based on categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, have grown to be one of the most comprehensive research tools for students and parents considering higher education opportunities.

Niche

For the fifth consecutive year, Ramapo College’s residence halls are ranked #1 among all public and private colleges and universities in New Jersey by Niche in its announcement of the 2022 Best College Dorms in America. Nationally, Ramapo maintained its ranking in the top 2 percent, earning the #29 spot out of 1,390 institutions, up five from last year. Per Niche, top-ranked colleges offer outstanding campus housing that is safe and clean with modern amenities at reasonable prices. Once again, Ramapo College of New Jersey has been honored by Money magazine on its 2022 Best College for Your Money rankings list.  Money analyzed quality of education, affordability, and outcomes, each with multiple additional data points to find the country’s top higher education values that offer a well-rounded collegiate education.

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance

For the 14th consecutive year, Ramapo College of New Jersey is listed in Kiplinger’s Personal Finance Magazine. Ramapo is ranked among the “100 Best Values in Public Colleges” for in-state tuition and fees for 2020-2021. Ramapo is one of only three New Jersey public institutions of higher education included in the list. The report features institutions that deliver a high-quality education at an affordable price, and Ramapo College was included due to its high four-year graduation rate, abundant financial aid and low cost.

Forbes

Ramapo College of New Jersey has been named to Forbes’ America’s Best Colleges for 2021, including a top 10 ranking for public medium-sized schools. Only 600 four-year schools were selected out of more than 2,700 for this year’s list. The pandemic created an opportunity for Forbes to re-evaluate how to measure the best colleges in America, which included not only the mere return on investment, but a look at the net price to attend college, grants and scholarships awarded, and student debt (especially length of time to repay loans).

Fortune Magazine

The Master of Science in Data Science program at Ramapo College of New Jersey has been nationally ranked a Top 30 master’s degree program by Fortune Magazine, making it the #1 graduate data science program in New Jersey. Ramapo College is proud to be named among institutions such as Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, and University of Michigan. In 2022, the Center for Data, Mathematical, and Computational Sciences opened, providing graduate and undergraduate students access to research labs, experiential learning and research opportunities with faculty, and lecture series. Undergraduate students are able to complete a 4+1 program leading to a master’s degree in data science, applied mathematics, or computer science, which reduces the time it takes to earn a graduate degree for these in-demand career fields while saving 30% on graduate tuition.

Nursing Progress

Ramapo College of New Jersey has been ranked as the #1 best nursing school in NJ for its Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program by Nursing Progress. Military Friendly®

Ramapo College of New Jersey has earned the gold award as a military-friendly school by 2022-2023 Military Friendly® Schools. Of the more than 12,000 VA-approved schools nationwide, only the top 15 percent of schools were recognized as military friendly. Ramapo was noted for its services to veterans that include reasonable transfer of credit, financial benefits, veterans clubs, credit for military training and nationally recognized testing programs, flexible class schedules, and membership in the Service Members Opportunities Colleges.

Ramapo College has also been designated a military spouse-friendly school by 2022-2023 Military Friendly® Schools for providing instituted policies to address the concerns and needs of military spouses and their families, and for constructing our admissions, retention, career counseling, and mentoring programs to help alleviate the difficulties faced by military spouses. We offer flexible learning options and degree continuation programs that are designed to accommodate deployments and relocation.

Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education

Ramapo College of New Jersey has been ranked by Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education for 2021-2022. Only 800 institutions were ranked based on 15 indicators that focus more on students and their needs and interests rather than an institution’s academic research. These indicators include an examination of classroom engagement, faculty outreach and mentoring, campus diversity, retention and graduation, and loans and job opportunities.

ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge

Keren Ortega ’22 of North Bergen, NJ has been recognized on the 2022 ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll. The ALL IN Student Voting Honor Roll is a recognition program for college students at participating campuses doing outstanding work to advance nonpartisan democratic engagement. Keren joins an elite group of only 82 college students recognized for their nonpartisan voter engagement efforts on campuses across the country in 2021.

Ramapo College of New Jersey earned the 2020 gold award from the ALL IN Challenge. This is the second year in a row Ramapo College won the gold award for engaging students to participate in the democratic voting process. More than 77% of students voted in the 2020 election, which is 11.1% higher than the national average for college campuses. This is also an increase of 22.6% from participation in the 2016 election. Business First

Ramapo College of New Jersey has received high marks from Business First in its 2020 rankings of the country’s best public colleges. Ramapo was ranked #64, following Rutgers-New Brunswick and The College of New Jersey among the top 100. Criteria for inclusion considered 22 factors, including admission rates and test scores, retention and graduation rates, institutional spending, costs, average earnings after graduation, racial diversity and gender balanceBusiness First included 425 colleges and universities on its list. To be considered, colleges had to have more than 1,000 full-time students, and more than half of the degrees granted during the most recent academic year were bachelor’s degree level or higher.

Great Values Colleges

Ramapo College of New Jersey has been recognized by Great Value Colleges as the top college in New Jersey and was ranked 24th in the country on its list of Best Disability Friendly Schools. Ramapo College’s Office of Specialized Services (OSS) coordinates the support services and accommodations for approximately 500 students with disability. According to Greatvaluecolleges.net, professional organizations that track disability in the United States note that levels of disability employment, earnings and health vary greatly from state to state, and there is still a vast disparity between American Colleges when it comes to educating people with disabilities. Ramapo was distinguished for its “top-notch disability services that allow their students to succeed.”

College Choice

Ramapo College of New Jersey is named among the top in College Choice’s 20 Best Colleges in New Jersey in 2021. Ramapo ranks as #1 among the nine public colleges in New Jersey and is ranked #3, with Princeton University and Stevens Institute of Technology, in the top two spots.

College Choice, a leading authority in college and university rankings and resources, developed its list by assessing academic quality, institutional reputation, program accreditation, along with return on investment—the differential between tuition costs and average early career earnings. Data came from the National Center for Education Statistics, Payscale, and U.S. News & World Report.

College Consensus

Ramapo College of New Jersey moved up three spots and ranks 7th of colleges and universities in New Jersey in College Consensus’s 2021 “Best Colleges in New Jersey” listing. Consensus rankings are based on a comprehensive aggregate of published rankings and verified student reviews.

National Association of Colleges and Employers

Ramapo College of New Jersey has been recognized for excellence in career services by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). Ramapo’s “Pathways to Success: Creating a Culture and Structure of Career Development” was named the top program in the category honoring career services best practices in 2021.

Princeton Review

Consistently ranked in the Princeton Review, Ramapo College of New Jersey is recognized in the listing for 2020 Best Colleges: Region by Region for the Northeast. The lists are based on survey responses from “the true experts in on-campus life – the students.”

Colleges of Distinction

Ramapo College of New Jersey is featured on CollegesofDistinction.com, a website dedicated to honoring schools nationwide for their excellence in student-focused higher education. Ramapo was found to excel in all four Distinction categories measured in the 2019-2020 listing.

The Four Distinction areas assessed include: student engagement, quality of teaching, vibrancy of the college community and success of graduates. Colleges and universities featured must meet minimum standards in each category.

Arbor Day Foundation

Ramapo College of New Jersey achieved recognition as a 2020 Tree Campus Higher Education institution. Tree Campus Higher Education, a national program launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation, honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation. To obtain this distinction, Ramapo College of New Jersey met the five core standards for effective campus forest management, including establishment of a tree advisory committee, evidence of a campus tree care plan, dedicated annual expenditures for its campus tree program, an Arbor Day observance, and the sponsorship of student service learning projects.

The Templeton Guide

The John Templeton Foundation has named Ramapo College of New Jersey to its Honor Roll for Character-Building Colleges, which recognizes institutions that emphasize character development as an integral aspect of the undergraduate experience. Colleges must exhibit a strong and inspiring campus-wide ethos that articulates the expectations of personal and civic responsibility in all dimensions of college life. Selection criteria include:

  • The significant involvement and participation of faculty in forming and shaping the ideals and standards of personal and civic responsibility
  • Evidence that a wide variety of programs exist to prepare students for lives of personal and civic responsibility
  • The integration of personal and civic responsibility standards and activities into the core curriculum or areas of academic study
  • External recognition or honors
  • Procedures to assess effectiveness of campus-wide character-development programs
