Check in Day – Save the Date!

Check in for the Fall 2025 semester is Sunday, August 24, 2025 by appointment time only.  Further information pertaining to check-in times will be posted to the Residence LIfe website on or about August 7, 2025.  Check-in volunteers and carts will not be availble after 3:30pm.Therefore, students should adhere to their specific appointment time.

Students who are not registered for classes or who have an outstanding balance on their student account will not be permitted to check in to their housing assignment.

The Office of Residence Life is unable to accommodate requests to check in prior to Sunday, August 24, 2025.  Students, who are unable to check in on the designated check in day and time, may check in any time after. However, these students must notify their hall/area office staff via email of their anticipated date of arrival. The College asks for cooperation in allowing the Office of Residence Life time to focus on all the activities associated with opening the residence halls for the upcoming semester. There are several hotels within the Mahwah area which are a short distance from the campus, if you are interested in arriving early.

Official College Communication & Important Resources

Ramapo College of New Jersey distributes college related information electronically to Ramapo issued email accounts. All residents are required to have a Ramapo College email account. Residents are encouraged to check their email and campus mailbox on a daily basis. Residents will be held responsible for information disseminated in this way.

Property Insurance & Insurance Claims Against Ramapo College

Property insurance provides residents with protection against damages and losses that may occur while at college, home, or when studying abroad. Residents can have peace of mind knowing that their personal property investments will be protected. All residents are strongly encouraged to obtain property insurance.

Ramapo College of New Jersey is an agency of the State of New Jersey and, as such, is covered by the New Jersey Tort Claims Act NJSA 59:1-1 et. seq., the New Jersey Contractual Liability Act NJSA 59:13.1 et. seq., and the availability of appropriations. The State of New Jersey does not carry public liability insurance, but the liability of the State and the obligation of the State to be responsible for tort claims against its employees and property are covered under the terms and provisions of the New Jersey Tort Claims Act. Ramapo College of New Jersey is represented by the State in legal matters.

Ramapo College of New Jersey does not have insurance covering residents’ belongings. Therefore, residents are strongly urged to get property/renter’s insurance or be added to their parent’s homeowners insurance. Tort Claim Forms may be obtained from the Office of Business Services located on the 1st floor in the D-Wing and online via the NJ Risk Management website: www.state.nj.us/treasury/riskmgt/forms.shtml. Health Services & Immunization Requirements

In order to live on campus, all residents who are under the age of 31 at the time of enrollment must submit proof of their immunization requirements to Health Services.  Particular attention should be paid to the meningitis requirements for all residential students. Residents who do not provide this information will not be able to move-in to campus housing until this is received. Residents who have not submitted this information are encouraged to contact Health Services immediately.

Connecting with Your Roommate: How to Find Their Email Address

The Office of Residence Life is unable to share the telephone numbers of campus residents. However, residents can easily connect with their roommates by using their Ramapo email account. Each Ramapo email account includes a built-in directory, allowing residents to search for and email other members of the college community, including their roommates.

Connecting with your roommate ahead of time can help you coordinate who will bring shared items and start building your relationship before move-in day.

Please follow the steps below to find and contact your roommate:

Room Change Request Process

Once housing assignments have been made, the Office of Residence Life is unable to accommodate room change requests prior to the start of the semester.

Residents interested in requesting a room change must submit a Room Change Request Form during the open room change period. More information about the room change process, including important dates and instructions, is available here.

Please note that housing costs vary across campus depending on the building, area, and type of housing unit. If a room change is approved, prorated housing charges — and any applicable changes to the resident’s meal plan — will be assessed and adjusted accordingly on the student account. Residents are encouraged to review housing and meal plan costs through the Office of Student Accounts website.

Housing Withdrawals

Once a resident withdraws from housing, they must reapply if they wish to request housing in the future. Please note that housing deposits are non-refundable and will be forfeited upon withdrawal.

Residents who would like to withdraw from housing prior to the start of the semester must email admissions@ramapo.edu.

Housing withdrawal requests must be sent from the resident’s Ramapo email account and must include the following information:

  • Complete First and Last Name
  • R-Number
  • A clear statement requesting withdrawal from housing
  • Reason for housing withdrawal

Tuesday, September 2, 2025 Last day to withdraw with 100% housing refund.
Tuesday, September 9, 2025 Last day to withdraw with 50% housing refund

Office of Specialized Services

Any resident, who is requesting specific housing accommodations due to a medical related condition, will need to register with the Office of Specialized Services (OSS). Once affiliated, OSS will inform the Office of Residence Life of all residents who require specific housing accommodations based on medical documentation provided to their office.

Please submit requests for housing accommodations for the Fall 2025 semester by June 1, 2025.

Residence Hall Contact Information

Each residence hall has an office, which is open 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. Monday through Friday and 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Most housing related matters can be handled in the hall office. Residents may contact their hall office staff by phone or by email using the information listed below.

Campus Mailbox & Packages

Upon check in, all residents will be assigned a campus mailbox by their assigned hall/area office. Resident mail should be addressed in the following format:

All packages addressed to campus residents are delivered to the Resident Mailroom, located in the College Park Apartments (The Lodge). When a package arrives, residents will receive an email notification from EZ TrackIt, the system Ramapo College uses to track incoming packages and alert residents of deliveries.

To pick up a package, residents must visit the Resident Mailroom and present their Ramapo ID card.

Important Note:
At the beginning of each semester, the mailroom experiences a high volume of incoming packages. While the mailroom staff work diligently to process all deliveries, residents may experience delays in receiving their email notifications. We encourage residents to be patient and plan accordingly when ordering items at the start of the semester.

Parking Permits

painted wooden toy carAll resident students who plan to have a vehicle on campus will be required to apply for and display a valid parking permit, as directed by Ramapo College Public Safety.  Public Safety is currently in the process of updating its parking permit procedures and will communicate with all students closer to the start of the semester.Please stay informed by regularly checking your Ramapo College email and visiting the Ramapo College Public Safety website for the latest updates and instructions as they become available.Parking related questions must be directed to the ID Room which is located in Public Safety.

Meal Plan Options

Meal plan change requests take at least three business days to process. Once requests have been processed, an email confirmation will be sent. Residents should not send more than one email request to help alleviate confusion and billing errors.

Residents living in traditional residence halls — Pine Hall, Mackin Hall, Bischoff Hall, The Overlook, and Laurel Hall — are required to have a meal plan.
Residents living in apartments — The Village and the College Park Apartments — are not required to have a meal plan, as their apartments are equipped with full kitchens.

Students who wish to change their meal plan for Fall 2025 may do so now through Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

How to Request a Meal Plan Change:

Meal plan change requests must be emailed to mealplan@ramapo.edu from the resident’s Ramapo email account with the subject line: Fall 2025 Meal Plan Request.
The email must include the following information:

  • Complete First and Last Name
  • R-Number
  • Meal Plan Option

Please note:

  • Meal plan change requests take at least three business days to process.
  • Residents will receive a confirmation email once their request has been completed.
  • To avoid confusion and billing errors, residents should not submit multiple email requests.

Save the Date: Fall 2026 Housing Selection Deposit

To secure housing for Fall 2026, resident students must submit a $500 non-refundable housing deposit by February 2, 2026.

Housing deposits will begin being accepted in November 2025.

Students who do not submit their deposit by the deadline will not be eligible to participate in the Housing Selection Process.

Further details about the housing selection timeline and process will be available starting in November 2025.
