Privacy Policy regarding Use of the RCNJ Experience App

Privacy Policy

Ramapo College of New Jersey (“Ramapo College” or the “College”) is committed to protecting the privacy and personal information of its users. This policy outlines the types of information collected through its mobile application, RCNJ Experience, how that information is used, and the measures in place to ensure your data remains secure and responsibly managed.

By using this mobile application, users acknowledge and agree to the practices described in this policy. Users are encouraged to read this policy in full to understand how data is collected, used, and protected.

Information Collected from the Mobile App

This mobile application collects three types of data: User ID, Device ID, and Product Interaction Data. All data collected, according to Ellucian, are not linked to the user’s personal identity.

• User ID: Includes identifiers such as screen names, handles, account IDs, assigned user IDs, customer numbers, probabilistic identifiers, or other user- or account-level IDs. These identifiers are collected solely for app functionality and are not connected to any personally identifiable information (PII).
• Device ID: Includes device-level identifiers such as advertising identifiers or similar unique device IDs. These are collected to help understand app performance and usage patterns, but are not associated with the user’s personal identity.
• Product Interaction Data: Includes information about how users engage with the app, such as app launches, taps, clicks, scroll behavior, music listening data, video views, saved places in media (e.g., games, videos, or songs), and other usage metrics. This data is used for improving user experience and app performance, and is not linked to the user’s identity.

Use of Collected Information

The data collected from this mobile application is used to support app functionality, enhance user experience, and improve product development. Specific uses for each data type are as follows:

• User IDs are not used for tracking purposes. They are used exclusively for analytics to evaluate user behavior, such as assessing the effectiveness of current features, planning new ones, and measuring audience size and characteristics. These identifiers remain unlinked to personally identifiable information.
• Device IDs are not used for tracking purposes. They are used solely to support core app functionality, including user authentication, feature enablement, fraud prevention, security enforcement, uptime assurance, crash minimization, performance optimization, and customer support.
• Product Interaction Data may be used for tracking and analytics. This data helps evaluate user engagement, assess product feature effectiveness, inform future development, and analyze audience behavior. Interaction data collected through the Experience App is transmitted to web analytics services partnered with Ellucian. Anonymized user interaction data is shared only if:
  • The user has opted in to usage data sharing during onboarding or via the Profile page in Experience, and
  • The user has granted consent for activity tracking in their iOS or Google Play privacy settings.

Data Sharing and Privacy Commitments

Ramapo College does not sell or distribute any information stored or entered within this mobile application. Ellucian, the College’s enterprise resource planning (ERP) system’s third party provider, operates under its own privacy guidelines and may share information with its partners; however, any data collected through this app is handled in accordance with the practices described in this policy.

User Choice and Consent

If you do not agree with the data collection and handling practices described in this policy, you may opt out by:

• Choosing not to install this mobile application, and/or
• Choosing not to log in to or use the mobile application.

Third-Party Links and External Sites

The mobile application may display cards or features that include outbound links to external websites provided by Ramapo College. Users should be aware that accessing these external links is at their own risk. Ramapo College does not control the security, privacy practices, or content of these third-party sites.

While some external links may direct users to partner sites with which Ramapo College maintains contractual relationships, the College does not govern or take responsibility for how these external websites handle user data or maintain their content.

These links are provided solely for the user’s informational benefit. By using them, users acknowledge the potential risks involved in navigating between applications and websites that fall outside of the College’s cyber ecosystem.

Users are strongly encouraged to review the privacy policies and terms of use of any third-party site they choose to visit, in order to understand how their information may be collected, used, or shared.

Using the app outside of the United States

According to Ellucian, the RCNJ Experience app should always load, and the cards will function, but any Banner admin areas might require VPN to function. However, the app itself is only available on US-based app stores.

Changes to this Privacy Policy 

Any changes made to this privacy policy will be posted on this page. Users are responsible for ensuring the College has an active and deliverable email address and for periodically visiting the College’s Website and this privacy policy to check for any changes.
