The Finance Club at the Anisfield School of Business, with the assistance of Faculty Advisors, Professor Juan Cabrera and Professor Timothy Haase, organized two teams of students that competed in the CME Group Commodity Trading Challenge. There were 85 schools competing, including schools from Australia, Canada, England, Germany, Greece and India. The Preliminary Round of the Challenge began on February 16, and concluded on March 3. The top 10% of the competing teams (top 16) with the highest account balance at 5:15pm EST on March 3 advanced to the Championship Round. Ramapo College finished in 13th place, out of 16 teams that advanced to the Final Round.
The Championship Round began on Sunday, March 6 and ended Friday, March 18. Ramapo College of NJ finished in 5th place out of 16 teams that competed in the Championship Round. The final standings were as follows:
The team members included Maritza Guananga, Brian Noll, Guido Alonso, Kevin Medvecky, Brian Malloy, and Marvin Mensah.
A dedication ceremony was held on September 29, 2010, for the Fifth Floor of the Anisfield School of Business, and the Global Financial Markets Trading Laboratory. Anisfield School of Business benefactor Richard Anisfield, and his daughter Nancy Anisfield, joined Board of Trustees members, and President Peter Mercer, in the ceremony. Paul Krugman, Nobel Prize winner and Professor of Economics and International Affairs at Princeton University, joined in the festivities, which included the designation of the Business School as the new home of the Eastern Economic Association. Afterward, Professor Krugman addressed Ramapo students and special guests with a lecture, “The Liquidity Trap and Its Discontents.”
