Take one simple step right now to make the most of your participation in the upcoming Social Security meeting; register today for your personal My Social Security account at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.

My Social Security is the safest, easiest, and fastest way to access your annual Social Security Statement, a free, personalized financial planning tool that shows how much you’ve earned over the years and what you can expect to receive from Social Security when you retire. Your Statement is available to you online through your My Social Security account at www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount.

For most people, registering for your personal My Social Security account takes only a few minutes, after which you will have immediate access to your annual Social Security Statement. You register only once and then can log in to view your Statement using your personally selected Username and password. Just follow the easy instructions in our fact sheet, How to Create an Online Account.

Review your Social Security Statement at least once a year to make sure that your name, date of birth and the last four digits of your Social Security Number are correct and that your earnings are accurately recorded. Since your monthly Social Security retirement benefit will be based on your highest 35 years of work, your Statement should show your full work history.

If you are married, make sure your spouse registers for his or her My Social Security account, too.

Remember:

  1. Go to www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount and sign up today for your personal My Social Security account.
  2. Review your annual Social Security Statement. (If you’re married, make sure that your spouse registers for his or her My Social Security account, too.)
  3. Download or print your Statement so that you have it with you during the meeting.

VOYA, Frank Booth (11:00am – 12:00pm)
Those wondering about how to take income from all sources when retired, and for retirees who need direction on meeting income needs from all retirement sources.

We’ll talk about having a retirement savings goal. Everyone needs a goal to shoot for.  We’ll discuss a simple way to figure out what yours is.

Once we set a goal, we’ll check on our progress.  How are you doing?  Do you need to make adjustments to how much you are saving and how you are investing?  Is your investment strategy aligned to meet your goal?  Whether retirement is just around the corner or still several years away, again, some adjustments now could mean big strides.

Next, we’ll talk about income planning. During our careers we tend to focus on saving, and as we get closer to retirement, then it becomes time to start thinking about income.  What will be your sources of cash flow?  What will you need to meet your expenses?
