Thanksgiving Holiday 2025

Wednesday, November 26, 2025 – College is open (no early dismissal)

Thursday, November 27, 2025 – College is closed (Happy Thanksgiving)

Friday, November 28, 2025 – College is closed (employees are not required to use their leave time; an alternative day off will be provided to essential employees)

 2025-2026 Winter Break Closing

Again, the College is offering an option for staff who work a 35 hour workweek to work additional hours during the fall semester to avoid using leave time for the winter break. This year the winter break closing dates are December 24, 26, 29, 30, 31, 2025 & January 2, 2026 for a total of 42 hours (6 days).  See Optional Adjusted Schedule below:

Optional Adjusted Schedule – Employees that work a 35 hour week.

For employees with a fixed workweek of 35 hours, you must work 1 additional hour per day for 42 days starting October 1 – 31,  November 3-25,  December 1 – 5,  to accumulate enough hours to take off the six  days from December 24-31, 2025 and January 2, 2026.

Those employees in the 40 hour workweek group and those employees who do not wish to participate in this adjusted schedule, will need to work (with Supervisor approval) on December 24, 26, 29, 30, and 31 and January 2, 2026 or use leave balances for any time off during this period.

As always, the Fall Holidays (Columbus Day, Election Day, and Veteran’s Day) are also available as an option to work and offset some of the hours for winter break.

Unit Heads will need to send a listing of all those employees in their unit that will be adjusting their schedules for October, November & December.  Please send the listing by September 24, 2025 to POER@ramapo.edu.

Guidelines:

  • Employees can work the fall holidays to earn comp time to cover  part of the winter closing
  • Employees can start earlier or end later to accrue up to 42 hours for the six days.  Comp time will not be recorded on time sheets for the additional hours worked but the manager will be responsible for the integrity of accumulated time.
  • Employees can use a combination of their banked accrued time and  accumulated hours to cover for the closing days
  • The altered schedule is subject to supervisory approval based on operational needs(We encourage managers to work with employees so as not to unreasonably deny a proposed schedule)
  • Skipping lunch cannot be used to accumulate hours as relief breaks are unpaid
  • This is a voluntary program and no employee is required to participate

Vacation Carryover

Vacation carryover is limited to one year of accrued time.  Please review your vacation time, which is available for employees to view in web self-service:  LINK

If you are in jeopardy of losing vacation time (those who earn time on a calendar year basis)  meet with your supervisor to schedule your vacation days prior to December 31, 2025 as carryover will not be extended beyond December 31, 2025.(This only applies to employees that earn time on a calendar year basis)
