The next available start term is Fall 2025.

What is the cost of the TA to Teacher Program?

What is the length of the TA to Teacher Program?

The estimated program length is 2-4 years. Duration of the program will be determined by a number of factors which may include the number of previous credits earned and whether or not you will be pursuing the MA in Special Education (phase 2)

Is the Masters in Special Education mandatory?

No, it is not mandatory, but highly recommended.

Course Delivery

Are the courses held in person, online, or hybrid?

Most classes will be held in an online synchronous format with two in person meetings required per semester at Morris-Union Jointure Commission (MUJC) in New Providence or Bergen County Special Services (BCSS) in Paramus.

Can the entire program be completed online?

Class Times & Locations

When are classes held?

Classes are scheduled to be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 4:30 – 7:50pm. Schedule is subject to change based on enrollment.

Where are in-person classes held?

Morris-Union Jointure Commission (MUJC) in New Providence and Bergen County Special Services (BCSS) in Paramus.

Do you offer certification for both Elementary and Secondary Education?

The TATE program is for Elementary Education certification only.

Financial Aid & Scholarships

Are students eligible for Financial Aid?

Students can apply for Financial Aid through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Are scholarships available?

Yes, all Fall 2025 TATE applicants will be automatically considered for a scholarship. Scholarships will be available in varying amounts for students accepted into the program.

What are the admission requirements for the program?

What is the GPA requirement for the program?

Fall 2025 applicants must have a minimum of a 2.75 college/university GPA.

I do not have a 2.75 GPA. Can I still apply to the TATE program?

The TATE program requires a 2.75 minimum GPA or above to qualify. If you do not have a 2.75 or above, we recommend reaching out to Joanne Caselli, our Teacher Education Certification Officer at jcaselli@ramapo.edu to see if you are eligible for any other Teacher Education pathways at Ramapo.

Are there any prerequisites or course requirements prior to entry?

No, however applicants must meet the Admissions requirements.

Do I need to obtain my NJ Substitute Certificate before starting the program?

No, but it must be obtained before enrolling in the Fall ‘26 term.

Is the Praxis required before starting the program?

No, but students in the program will need to pass the elementary core praxis prior to enrolling in the Clinical Practice 1 Course.

Can international students apply?

No, applicants must be US Citizens or US Permanent Residents.

What GPA do I need to maintain during the program?

Students must maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 or above once enrolled in the program.

Can I transfer in any teaching practicum courses?

All transcripts and courses will be reviewed by Admissions and the Teacher Education Team and transfer credit will be awarded if applicable. In some cases, RCNJ might need to request additional information from the student before awarding transfer credit.

If I started a teaching program elsewhere, am I eligible to start this program?

Applicants will be reviewed by the Teacher Education team on a case by case basis.
