The Academic Review Committee (ARC) is a standing committee of the Faculty Assembly charged with reviewing academic policies, evaluating new programs and program revisions, reviewing new courses and course revisions, and making recommendations to the Faculty Assembly.

The ARC Manual contains:

• Procedures for revising or proposing a new course or program;
• Information about the General Education Program, the Writing Intensive Program, and the First-Year Seminar;
• Course level and enrollment guidelines; and
• Sample syllabi.

2025-2026 ARC Application Procedures:

All ARC/GECCo/WAC proposals must be submitted electronically via the new Course Dog course management system adopted by the College. Faculty will have the opportunity to be trained on Course Dog on the following days (please see the Daily Digest for more info):

1. Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2025, 3:30pm – 5pm (in person – IDC Lab)
2. Friday, Sept. 12, 2025, 10:30am – 12:00pm (Webex)
3. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2025, 1pm – 2:30pm (in person – IDC Lab)

Please consult the 2025-2026 Syllabus Template Form below when submitting an ARC application in Course Dog.

• Syllabus Template Form (Word): Faculty must include a syllabus for every course referenced in your application (e.g., a syllabus for a new/revised course, relevant syllabi for courses in a new/revised program, etc.). Please make sure that all syllabi submitted to ARC have the elements specified on the Syllabus Template Form.

Please note that if you are revising a course or proposing a new course, you are most likely also making changes to an academic program (e.g., adding a new elective, changing a requirement, having a course also count for credit in another program, etc.). As a result, most new course and course revision applications in Course Dog should be submitted in addition to a separate program revision application in Course Dog.

If your application involves more than one academic program, all conveners, deans, and program directors involved must be indicated application forms. 

Application Due Dates:

Per the updated ARC Manual, “ARC will accept new course proposals and course revisions on a rolling basis, but only when the course package is complete. It must be understood that the later in the academic year the proposal is submitted, the less likely it is for the course to be approved and processed by the registrar office on time for the next academic year. ARC will make all efforts to ensure that courses submitted in the fall prior to October 15 will be reviewed by the end of the fall semester, and courses submitted in the spring prior to February 15, to be reviewed by the end of the spring semester. … ARC will make all efforts to ensure that new program proposals submitted in the fall prior to November 1st will be reviewed by the end of the fall semester, and new program proposals submitted in the spring prior to February 15, to be reviewed by the end of the spring semester.”
