Center for Food Action

Position: Infrastructure Intern

Join an active team of student developers working with the Center for Food Action, a New Jersey food assistance nonprofit. This role focuses on unifying a growing suite of applications into a cohesive, production-ready platform. Open to sophomores and juniors in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or Data Science.

MEVO

Position: Volunteer & Harvest App Intern

MEVO is an environmental nonprofit running farms and community programs across New Jersey. This intern will work on MEVO’s volunteer management platform and lead development of a brand-new Harvest Tracking Application. Open to current juniors in Computer Science or Data Science.

Positions: Application Development & IT Support; Digital Data Curation & Community Engagement

The DMC is building a tribal membership and records system for the Ramapough Munsee Lenape Nation, whose Tribal Center is located just a few miles from campus. Two positions are available: one focused on application development and IT support, and one focused on digital data curation and community engagement.

Bibhu Bhatta Bibhu Bhatta is a Computer Science major with 3+ years of professional experience in fin-tech, automation, design, UX, and application development.
Emily Morra Emily Morra is a Data Science major with a minor in Sports Management, gaining analytics experience through her internship with the New Jersey Jackals.
Tina Nosrati Tina Nosrati is an Honors Computer Science major and Pi Mu Epsilon President, applying AI to sustainability challenges with nationally recognized research.
Prashant Shah Prashant Shah is a Computer Science and Data Science double major with software engineering internships at Trimble and Novartis Pharmaceuticals.
Vedika Shaily Vedika Shaily is pursuing an M.S. in Data Science with experience in data visualization, machine learning, and developing R Shiny applications for analytics.

Are these student positions paid or volunteer-based?

These student internships are all paid positions funded by generous donors through the Ramapo College Foundation.

What technical skills do students actually use?

Students apply advanced concepts directly from their BS and MS courses in Computer Science, Data Science, and Mathematics. Common tasks include:

  • Building full-stack software applications and unified infrastructure platforms.
  • Integrating third-party platforms via custom APIs.
  • Designing databases, user account management systems, and automated data notifications.
  • Writing reusable, modular code blocks shared across multiple distinct non-profit clients.
Who is eligible to apply for a DMC Impact project?

While primarily targeted at Ramapo College data science, computer science, mathematics, and cybersecurity majors, the center also seeks out interdisciplinary skillsets. For instance, social impact internships such as a community data intake role may explicitly prefer students with Digital Humanities backgrounds who have a talent for managing community engagement and tribal records archiving.

Scott Frees

Scott Frees, PhD, Computer Science, is the Director for both the MS Computer Science and MS Data Science programs. He collaborates with both faculty and students on research projects.
