Perillo Study Abroad Scholarship

The Perillo Study Abroad Scholarship was established by Steve Perillo, whose company Perillo Tours has been in the travel business since 1945.  Most well known for its trips to Italy, the company has expanded its business to include “Learning Journeys.”  The Perillo Study Abroad Scholarship builds on this theme of learning through travel by helping deserving students defray the costs of study abroad.

This award is administered by Ben Levy, Director of International Education.

2017 Recipients

Rachel Dickstein

“I hope to work in the photography field, combining my love of travel and exploration with my unique way of seeing things through a lens,” says Rachel Dickstein of Pennington NJ.  Rachel is a Visual Arts major with a concentration in Photography. She has a 3.7 GPA and is a member of two honor societies, National Society of Collegiate Scholars and Alpha Lambda Delta.

At Ramapo, Rachel has been active in the Outdoors Club, the Nutrition and Fitness Club and the Fusion Dance Club.  Off campus she is regularly involved in helping at the donation center at her church. She has also donated her time to the Brain Tumor Society fundraising campaign.

 

Jessica Miller

Jessica Miller of Highland Mills, NY is an International and Liberal Studies Major. She has a 3.073 GPA. At Ramapo, Jessica has been active in the Model UN and the Global Roadrunners. She participated in the 2016 New York Model UN Conference and helps to educate students on study abroad through the Global Roadrunners, as well as in her student aide position in the Roukema Center for International Education.

Jessica has also been involved in off –campus activities and organizations, including AmeriCorps and Environmental Clubs. Through AmeriCorps, Jessica worked for Cornell Cooperative Extension, educating the public on health and environmental issues. As president of the Environmental Club at Rockland Community College, Jessica helped to create and organize environmental programs on campus, as well as facilitate student volunteering. After graduation, Jessica plans to join the Peace Corps and obtain a graduate degree in International Development.


2016 Recipients

Nuri Muqsit

Nuri Muqsit of Franklin Township, NJ is a Psychology major. She has a 3.6 GPA and was recently inducted into Psi Chi, the International Honors Society in Psychology. She is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

At Ramapo, Nuri has been active in several organizations and activities, including holding a position as the publicist of both the Student Diversity Action Committee and Ebony Women for Social Change. She is also a peer academic coach, tutor, scribe and student aide for the Office of Specialized Services.

Nuri has interned with the New Jersey Center for Counseling and Psychological Services as a research assistant and educational consultant.

 

 


Gabrielle Quinones

Gabrielle Quinones of Ramsey, NJ is a graduate student in the Social Work Master’s program. She has a GPA of 3.8 and was inducted into the National Honor Society Phi Alpha Pi.

Gabrielle has also been involved in off campus activities and organizations including volunteering with America’s Special Kidz (A.S.K) foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Reed Academy.

 

Altondra Williams

Altondra Jamese Williams of Elmwood Park, NJ is an International Studies major with concentrations in East Asian Studies and Human Rights.

She has a 3.01 grade point average.

At Ramapo, Altondra has been active in several organizations and activities, including the Black Student Union.

Altondra has also been involved in off – campus activities and organizations, including Lenni Lenape Sweat Lodge Fundraiser.

 

Maral Tezcan

Maral Tezcan of Palisades Park, NJ is an International Business major with a concentration in Management.  She has a 3.3 GPA. Maral was inducted into the Alpha Lambda National Honor Society, the National Honor Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Chi Alpha Epsilon National Honor Society.

At Ramapo, Maral is a tour guide for the Ramapo Admissions Student Ambassador (RASA).

Maral has worked off campus for two years as a sales representative at Planet Sun Tanning Salons.
