2020 Memorial Scholarship

lnna Boycheva’16 and Dobromir (Dobri) Yordanov’15 are Ramapo College alumni who created this scholarship to acknowledge what a challenging time it has been for Ramapo students due to the coronavirus. “It’s been a tough year for students and they deserve a bit of a break.” This is the third scholarship Inna and Dobri have created to benefit Ramapo students.

The 2020 Memorial Scholarship will help offset the cost of attending Ramapo College for the most academically exceptional students, regardless of major or current year.

ESSAY INSTRUCTIONS:

Applicants must submit a one-to-two page essay that addresses the following questions:

What is the main reason you pursued higher education? Has that reason changed since enrolling at Ramapo College?

What are your goals after graduation? How do you aim to accomplish those goals?

What are you really passionate about? What would you like to be known for in the future?

  • Candidate MUST be recommended by faculty/dean and complete an application
  • GPA 2.5 and above
  • Any major
  • Scholarships open to second semester first years, sophomores, juniors and seniors
  • Open to in-state, out-of-state, and international students
  • Financial need considered

2021 Recipients

Colette Barca

Colette Barca of Oakland, N.J. is in the Master’s of Data Science program and is pursuing a career as a Data Analyst for Major League Baseball. She has a 4.0.

As an undergraduate, she was awarded the Presidential Scholarship and graduated summa cum laude. She was highly active in the Newman Catholic Club and Pi Mu Epsilon, Math Honor Society. With Pi Mu Epsilon, she participated annually in the NJUMC Math Competition. In 2018, she was the highest scoring female of the competition. She was also involved with the Student Account Revenue Management committee on campus. 

Off campus, Colette volunteers at Catholic and Episcopalian churches as a violinist and vocal performer. Over the past several years, she has worked as a math teacher in numerous locations throughout the Bergen County area.


Caitlyn Campbell

Caitlyn Campbell of West Milford, NJ is studying Social Work in Ramapo’s Master of Social Work program. She graduated summa cum laude from Ramapo College with a BA in Psychology in 2020 and has earned a 4.0 GPA as a graduate student. She has been a consistent recipient of the Dean’s List and is a member of Tau Sigma National Honor Society and Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society.

At Ramapo, Caitlyn has been active in several organizations and activities, including interning as an academic advisor in the Center for Student Success. He work off campus has mainly focused on educating local youth, including interning at the Penta School Montessori Academy and tutoring elementary-aged children. She also dedicates time to providing hand-made supplies to small animal rescues. “I aspire to spend my life creating bridges between the field of social work, youth and community education, and animal rescue.”

Tamia Anderson

Tamia Anderson of Carlstadt, NJ is a recent graduate with a degree in Elementary Education. She finished at Ramapo as a first-generation college graduate with a 3.5 GPA. She was also inducted into the Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society and received Dean’s List honors for her last 3 years at Ramapo. Tamia is currently enrolled in the Masters of Arts in Special Education (MASE) 4+1 program at Ramapo and plans to be a special educator at the elementary level.

At Ramapo, Tamia has been active in several organizations and activities, including Ebony Women for Social Change Future Teachers of America (FTAR). She also had the honor of being the President of the Black Student Union as a Senior after serving on the executive board as a Publicist. She found joy in helping and supporting many students of color on campus by providing them a place to feel at home at a PWI.

Tamia is currently employed at Ho-Ho-Kus Public School where she enjoys teaching as a substitute teacher. Her kind heart also finds joy in helping at New Hope Way of the Cross Church in Teaneck, NJ. “I always find any way I can to support my community and give back to others as much as I can.”


Egor Isakson

Egor Isakson of Fort Lee, N.J. is a Computer Science major with a 3.85 GPA, enrolled in a 4+1 B.S. to M.S. in Data Science Program.

In his free time, Egor contributes to Ramapo’s Investment Club and likes to study machine learning techniques and practices. “I have two main goals after graduation: to become a researcher/data scientist at OpenAI and to accelerate the efforts to reverse climate change.”


Grace Velarde

Grace Velarde of Oakland N.J. is a Contemporary Arts Contract Major with a 3.97 GPA. She is a member of the Honors Program, Alpha Lambda Delta and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars.

Two of Grace’s paintings were chosen to be displayed at an art exhibition called “A New Berth,” held by the Camden Fireworks art gallery. A percentage of the commission made from the sold artworks was used to better the water system. “I was humbled by the opportunity to direct my passion for art toward helping those in need,” says Grace. 

On campus, Grace organizes open houses and gives campus tours as a Ramapo Admissions Student Ambassador. She also plays the alto saxophone in the college’s Jazz and Concert Bands.

In her free time, Grace volunteers at organizations such as A Step Ahead Preschool in North Bergen, N.J. and the North Hudson Community Action Corporation in Union City, N.J.

At Ramapo, Colette has been active in several organizations and activities, including the Newman Catholic Club (President 2019-2020, Treasurer 2017-2019) and the Pi Mu Epsilon Math Honor Society (President 2019-2020, Secretary 2018-2019). With Pi Mu Epsilon, she participated annually in the NJUMC Math Competition. In 2018, she was the Highest Scoring Female of the competition which included nearly 90 contestants. She was also a member of the Student Account Revenue Management committee, where she determined the allocation of club budgets for RCNJ organizations.

Colette has also been involved in off–campus activities and organizations, including Catholic and Episcopalian churches where she volunteers as a violinist and vocal performer. In the past several years, she has worked as a math teacher in numerous locations such as the Paterson Upward Bound Math & Science Program, Ramapo High School in Franklin Lakes, and the Ridgewood Huntington Learning Center.
