Innovation meets recognition. That’s what happened on November 17 when Dr. Fariba Nosrati, assistant professor of information technology management, won the Bright Idea Award sponsored by the Stillman School of Business at Seton Hall University. Her manuscript “The Power of Stories for Impression Management: Evidence from a city cultural digital storytelling initiative” was one of the top 10 published in the 2022 annual volume of Publications of New Jersey’s Business Faculty.

Nosrati’s research, published in the highly respected international journal Information Technology & People, delved into how cultural institutions harness the power of digital storytelling to shape public perspectives on cultural content, focused on understanding the impact and mechanisms behind these narratives in influencing individuals. In an era saturated with information, determining what truly matters becomes a challenge. Her findings reveal that digital storytelling serves as a potent tool to navigate this information overload, effectively delivering memorable messages while molding people’s perceptions. This holds particular relevance for individuals who seek information in casual or incidental learning experiences in daily life.

“I am truly honored to be among the recipients of the Bright Idea Award. I’m incredibly grateful to the award committee for recognizing our research. This award motivates us to work harder and continue pushing boundaries,” shared Nosrati. “This award is a significant achievement for me, but it would not have been possible without the supportive environment at Ramapo, particularly at ASB.” She went on to thank her co-author, Dr. Brian Detlor, and McMaster University in Ontario for their invaluable contributions to the research.

When she isn’t winning awards and publishing in high-impact scholarly journals, Nosrati teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in business analytics and IT management, including Business Analytics I & II, Tools for Analytics, IT Principles, Information Technology for Managers, and Analytic Tools for Managers. Starting next year, she will offer two new courses on AI for Business at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
