Academics

Calendar

Academic Requirements:

Academics are an essential aspect of fraternity and sorority life, one which members take very seriously. In assuring the academic prosperity of its members, all fraternities and sororities must meet an average grade point average of a 2.5 cumulative grade point average as a chapter as outlined in the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life policies, in order to remain an active and recognized organization at Ramapo College of New Jersey. Chapters that fall below this average are put on chapter academic probation and must meet monthly regarding their academic status with the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life.

Individual chapter members are also held to an academic standard. In order to stay active within the chapter, members must retain at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average. Members that do not meet this standard are removed from the chapter roster until they can bring their average up above the requirement.

As outlined additionally in our membership eligibility policy, prospective members are also held to an academic standard. To be eligible to participate in recruitment, accept a bid and join a fraternity/sorority, students must currently:

  • Have earned 12-23 Ramapo credits and have earned a cumulative 2.5 grade point average or better (or)
  • Have earned 24 Ramapo credits or more and have earned a cumulative 2.25 grade point average or better
  • Be in good academic standing with the College and must not be on disciplinary probation.
  • Transfer students may join in their first semester without meeting any eligibility requirements other than being in good standing

Overall Grade Reports:

Each semester, the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life enlists the help of the Registrars’ office to compile a grade report for all chapters. These reports compare the all undergraduate averages to that of the Fraternity and Sorority Life community each semester. Chapters with less than 4 members have had their averages redacted for confidentially purposes.
