Faculty Assembly is open to a general college audience, including administrators, but only FA members may vote. Faculty, including library faculty and all full-time employees contractually obligated to teach are FA members as defined by our bylaws.

Faculty Assembly President’s Report: (slides)

  • Last Faculty Scholarship Symposium of the semester on April 2, 10:30-12:00. Theme is TBD but suggestions are welcome.
  • Upcoming student research showcase events:
    • TAS Research Symposium on April 9
    • Psychology Student Symposium on April 30
    • Scholars’ Day on April 14
    • DMC Fair on April 23

    Please email FA President with other events, so that all can be advertised and posted on the FAEC calendar.

  • Reminder to sign up for Arching and Commencement activities
  • Handbook Revision Committee targeting 4/2 FA meeting to present recommendations
  • Middle States self-study to begin next fall
  • Diversity Convocation today 3:00-4:00 in Berrie Center
  • Provost’s Conveners/Convening Groups Task Force feedback sessions on March 5 and March 26 from 12:00-1:00

Provost’s Report:

  • Relayed remarks from President Jebb (not in attendance)
    • Reaffirmation of Ramapo’s values and mission
    • State budget is expected to be substantially reduced for next year; Ramapo is working to diversify revenue sources.
  • Liberal Arts Curriculum Task Force has been finalized, will be formally charged next week.
  • AI Consulting Group has produced a list of recommendations for use of AI in TLC, as well as an ethics statement. (link)
    Note: Questions regarding the separate College-wide AI Statement were directed to Rob Doster and addressed as follows.

    • Statement was designed to apply primarily to staff and administrators.
    • Key concern is that data including privileged or personal information must not be uploaded to AI, where it becomes public data.

  • Gen Ed Revision: Progress Report
    Chris Reali, GECCo Chair

    • GECCo has sent out a faculty survey on opinions on current GE Program
    • GECCo chair will attend SGA meeting next week to hold Town Hall on current GE Program
    • Open invitation for interested faculty to join the Gen Ed Revision Steering Committee (Contact Chris or your ARC representative.)

Voting Items/Elections:

  • Elementary Education BS and Special Education MA 4+1 (Proposal Document) (slides)
    Proposal endorsed by FA with a vote of 46 approve, 2 do not approve and 2 abstain (67 eligible).
  • FAEC Councilor-At-Large (under eleven)
    Dr. Timmesha Butler elected with a vote of 42 approve, 1 do not approve and 7 abstain
