Is Ramapo’s MSW program accredited?

Yes, our MSW is fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education, effective March 2018.

How long will it take me to get my MSW?

Advanced Standing Track – 1 year, full time

Full Time Track – 2 years

Part Time Track – 3 years

What are the qualifications to apply to the Advanced Standing Track?

Students who have earned a baccalaureate degree in social work (BSW) within the past five years from an undergraduate social work program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education and have a GPA of 3.25

Can I apply to the Full Time or Part Time program if I do not have a BSW degree?

Yes, all undergraduate degrees will be considered for the Full or Part time tracks.

What are the qualifications to apply to the Full Time Track and Part Time Track?

Students must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution and a minimum GPA of a 3.0.

Can I continue to work full time while earning my MSW degree?

It is highly recommended that students in the Advanced Standing track and Full Time track do not work full time as field work practicum will take place during regular business hours. Students in the Part Time track may be able to work full time during the first year of the three year program.

Can I take courses at my own pace?

No, students must follow the outlined curriculum and take at least two courses per semester.

How many hours of field work are required?

Advanced Standing Track = 600 hours

Full Time Track & Part Time Track = 1,200 hours

Can I do my fieldwork at my place of employment?

Students can discuss choosing their own fieldwork site with the Director of Fieldwork Education. Fieldwork sites need to meet certain criteria to qualify and must be approved by the MSW department.

When and how often do classes meet?

Our MSW program is hybrid in delivery. MSW classes are held on campus on Monday and Thursday evenings from 4:10-8:40pm. A few courses may be offered online.

Do you accept transfer credits from other schools?

Yes, we can accept up to two graduate level MSW courses as electives. Transfer courses must be approved by the MSW Program Director.

What is the total cost of the MSW program?

The Fall 23-Spring 24 Tuition rate is $851.82 per credit. 

Estimated total cost for the Advanced Standing Track = $27,259

Estimated total cost for Full Time and Part Time Tracks = $54,517

*There is no additional cost for out-of-state students.

Can graduate students apply for Financial Aid?

Yes, Graduate students may borrow up to $20,500 annually under the Federal Direct Stafford Loan programs.

To qualify for a Federal Direct Stafford loan, graduate students must be enrolled for at least 6 credit hours per semester.  Students enrolled for less than 6 credits may consider an alternative loan.
