Nicholas Kruger

“I am ready to fulfill my dream of becoming a history teacher and working to educate my students through the knowledge of history,”  says History major Nicholas Kruger of Vernon Township, N.J.  Nicholas has been active with the Athletics Department since his Junior year as an Athletics-Sports Information Student Assistant.

“My proudest accomplishment is my improvement in academics over my college career,” says Nicholas. “Through sheer grit, willpower, and determination I proved to myself that I can attain the academic standards that make me feel accomplished.”

Awarded Scholarships

2023

Garber, Jackie and Paul Scholarship

Jackie Fain Garber graduated from Ramapo College in 1975 and became a kindergarten and Montessori teacher. In 2001 she and her husband Paul decided to start an annual scholarship to recognize good students with financial need who may need a little help in paying their college costs. “I’ve gotten so much from my Ramapo education,” Jackie said at the time, “I would like to give back.” Students who receive the Garber Scholarships can be studying any discipline, but must demonstrate financial need and be in good academic standing.  Sadly, Mr. Garber died in March, 2014.

Schader, Joyce Secular Humanist Scholarship

Joyce Schader served as the Ramapo College Foundation’s Associate Director of Annual Giving until her retirement in 2015.  Prior to working at Ramapo, Ms. Schader was a fundraiser at St. John’s University, the City College of New York, and Brooklyn Law School.  For the better part of her career, Ms. Schader worked at non-profit organizations in the area of higher education.  She was a graduate of the State University of New York at Geneseo, from which she earned a BA degree in political science,  and St. John’s University from which she earned an MA degree in Sociology.

“Secular humanism encourages critical thinking, and a public academic institution like Ramapo College is an appropriate place for young people to continue to develop that wisdom and cultivate free thinking,” Ms. Schader said when she created this award in 2015.  Her intent with this scholarship is to recognize students who are committed to bettering the world through applied science, and who are “devoted to ethics and morals based on rationalism and humanism.”

On October 10, 2015, Joyce Schader lost her battle with lung cancer.
