FYS Class:

Class of: 2026

Major/Minor: Nursing

Resident/Commuter: Commuter

Favorite Class: My favorite current class is my Islamic Empires history class. My professor is Pinar Kayaalp and she is absolutely WONDERFUL. I am not Muslim myself and while I love history, Islamic Empires are probably the area I know least about. She explains the history in such a way, I can easily understand the topics. She is also very respectful to all types of beliefs because she acknowledges not only Muslim students are taking her class. She is understanding to her students and genuinely listens. I can tell she loves being a teacher, which makes her class so much more enjoyable.

Favorite Place on Campus: My favorite place on campus is the main pathway that leads to the A-E wings and other buildings. The rocks that line the path are so beautiful and I love walking under the trees. It makes me feel more connected to nature.

Future Plans: My goal is to eventually enter into an internship at a hospital which would allow me the necessary experience so I could get a job at a hospital. I want to work up to being a Labor and Delivery Nurse in the future.

Favorite Inspirational Quote: “Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.” – Master Oogway

Advice for First-Year Students: These first few months of college may seem difficult. There are many big changes happening and those changes may seem daunting. Know that even if things become hard to handle, there are people in your corner that are here to help. You are not alone, even if you believe you are. We are here to help, so don’t give up. There is so much fun to be had at Ramapo!
