[ASB-230] The Sustainability Program at Ramapo College of New Jersey, and the South India Study Abroad Program present “The Emergence of A Local Grassroots Resistance in the Rural South, against Imperialistic Globalization Pressures in India” by Dr. Biswajit Mohanty. Pizza will be served.

About the Speaker

Biswajit Mohanty is an Associate professor in the Department of Political Science, Deshbandhu College, University of Delhi. His specialisation is on migration studies and election studies. He keeps a deep interest in environment and human rights questions. He has also a close association with social movements in Odisha especially the Kalinganagar and Anti-Posco movement.

He would speak on the success story of the Anti-POSCO Movement, where peasants and landless people, through their sustained efforts, could force a giant multi-national company, POSCO, to abandon its mega industrial project. He will also speak about how social movement actors developed a critique of development discourse during the course of resistance movement and changed the terms of development discourse in this area.
