Faculty Assembly Meeting Minutes

Faculty Assembly is open to a general college audience, including administrators, but only FA members may vote. Faculty, including library faculty and all full-time employees contractually obligated to teach are FA members as defined by our bylaws.

College President’s Report:

  • Thank you to faculty members for successful Open House, Founders’ Day, and other events
  • Words of appreciation for Susan Vallario and her service as BOT Chair
  • Ramapo is doing very well in procuring national grants
  • Excitement over the CAP moving forward
  • Words of appreciation for Ramapo’s campus culture and support for students’ well-being
  • Federal activity working group is continuing to monitor changes at the federal level

Provost’s Report:

  • Report on a successful open-house event
  • Report on meetings with new faculty members
  • Liberal Arts Curriculum Task Force has submitted their report; Provost presentation on Oct. 22 will go over action items from that report and progress on implementation of the CAP
  • Call for anyone interested in the Provost’s AI working group to reach out to the Provost

Announcements:

  • ITS Updates, Transition from Cisco/Webex (Rob Doster)
    • Webex will not be available after January 31, 2026
    • Recommendation is for faculty to download Webex recordings to their P: or U: drive from their office workstation for permanent storage.
    • Cloud storage on Google Drive or OneDrive is an alternative.
    • Trainings on Microsoft Teams are being planned.
    • Faculty will still have access to Google Meet through their Ramapo Google account for the foreseeable future.
  • Sabbatical Program Transition Period (Jenn Hicks McGowan)
    • Challenges associated with transition, request for patience.
    • Reach out to deans, who will play an essential role
    • Q & A with faculty

  • Faculty Handbook Revision Committee (FHRC): FA Representatives (2)
    Professors Mia Serban (SSHS) and Marc Gidal (CA) successfully elected

Formal meeting adjourned at 2:15 pm. Followed by Faculty Forum dedicated to a discussion of faculty questions, ideas, perspectives and concerns related to the impact of artificial intelligence at Ramapo and more generally.
