International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) and The Cahill Career Development Center are pleased to invite you to attend our “Immigration Workshop” on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 from 12:30 pm at the Cahill Center (C-209). This Immigration Workshop is aimed for all F-1 international students who are planning to graduate this spring.
TOPICS:
Optional Practical Training (OPT) for F-1 Students
Optional Practical Training (OPT) is defined by the USCIS regulations as “temporary employment for practical training directly related to the student’s major area of study.” We will provide comprehensive overview of Optional Practical Training (OPT) for students who are in F-1 status and will be graduating this spring. The workshop will also review the eligibility requirements for STEM OPT, explain the different types of OPT authorization available to F-1 students and provide information about the OPT application process and its associated deadlines.
Hiring an International, What Should the Employers Know?
We will talk about the policies, procedures, and responsibilities of the employers who will be hiring international students on OPT and what they should know about the E-Verify program.
H-1B to Green Card and PERM Regulations
We will provide detail information about how an international student can work in the United States after their Optional Practical Training work authorization expires and the procedures to obtain H-1B & U.S. Permanent Resident status (known as the Green Card).
