Virtual/Remote International Experiences

The following are a select group of virtual experiences offered by partners of Ramapo College:


Virtual Internships

Virtual Global Internships (Academic Programs International)

Intern with an international organization from home and earn credit! Participate in a 4 days/32 hours per week internship to expand your resumé.

Virtual Internships in Europe (Arcadia University’s College of Global Studies)

Enhance your fall or spring semester with a virtual internship in Athens, Edinburgh, London or Rome. An Arcadia Abroad Virtual Europe Internship provides you with international work experience and a four-credit internship course to add to your study at your home school.

Virtual Europe Internship Placement Guide: We’ll work to match your placement with your career goals to help you gain the relevant, international experience employers are seeking. Placements range from social media assignments and web content creation, to performing research for business development projects, to developing communication content and plans for non-profit organizations, and much more.

Virtual Global Innovation Internship (CIEE)

The CIEE Virtual Global Innovation Internship allows students to build new economy skills and international professional relationships. Delivered in collaboration with Australia-based Hacker Exchange, students on this program will collaborate with peers in Australia, learn about start-ups from experts in Silicon Valley, explore high tech companies in Singapore, and complete an industry internship in a global innovation hub like Berlin.

Students can enroll directly via the CIEE website:

  • First program start date is January 4, 2021.
  • The total program duration is 8 or 12 weeks depending on the student’s preferred schedule.
  • During the first week of the program, students complete an online Hacker Exchange Discovery program. Here they will learn job-ready innovation skills and explore global startup ecosystems with an international cohort of peers. The program is built around workshops, speakers, online collaboration, and mentoring.
  • Skills include:
    • Design thinking
    • Market research
    • Introduction to UX and UI
    • Developing business pitches
    • Leadership and mentor training
  • After the Discovery program, students begin a 7-week or 11-week CIEE virtual internship matched to their specific goals and interests. Students will complete a minimum of 200-240 hours of project-based internship hours during this portion of the program and placements can be matched in 20 global cities for a cross-cultural learning experience.
  • Upon completion, students will receive 2 digital certificates for posting to their networks and online resumes.
  • The program is non-credit, but CIEE can work with you to determine how students from your institution may be able to receive home school credit.

Global Remote Internships (International Studies Abroad)

The Global Remote Internship Program provides students with the unique opportunity to gain practical 21st century skills, industry, connections, and international business experience through project-based learning.

Students will participate in either a group project, facilitated by a Professional Mentor, or an individual placement. In all cases, participants will work remotely from their own home and still gain valuable international experience while earning academic credit.

School for International Training (SIT) virtual options

Jordan: Virtual Internship in Community Empowerment & Sustainable Environments (SIT Study Abroad)

Gain professional experience with an NGO, UN agency, or government agency working with youth and vulnerable groups on community empowerment and environmental sustainability.

Kenya: Virtual Internship in Public Health in the Tropics (SIT Study Abroad)

Gain professional experience working remotely with a research organization, hospital, or nonprofit organization and learn about the dynamics of public health in western Kenya.

Netherlands: Virtual Internship in Sexuality and Gender (SIT Study Abroad)

Explore the work of non-governmental organizations in the areas of gender, sexuality, and international migration through a five-week program including a four-week intensive internship.

Serbia & Kosovo: Virtual Internship in Transitional Justice, Human Rights & Memory Activism (SIT Study Abroad)

Explore justice, human rights, and memory in post-conflict societies and contribute to the work of an important organization with a meaningful, four-week internship.

South Africa: Virtual Internship in Diplomacy, Conflict Resolution & International Relations (SIT Study Abroad)

Gain professional experience working remotely with a nonprofit organization, study apartheid, and learn about the history, ideas, values, and practice of social justice in South Africa.


Virtual International Courses

Innovation Lab (Academic Programs International)

API’s Innovation Lab offers you the opportunity to work with a team of 4-6 peers to develop innovative business solutions to global challenges while building essential skills of cross-cultural teamwork and collaboration, concept design, and execution. The lab is designed to leverage the UN Global Goals as a blueprint for understanding global problems that need solving, like poverty, gender equality, and climate action – among many others – for a healthier and happier world. Your work will result in a pitch deck and investment proposal of a viable business model that you will present in a virtual boardroom as part of the Global Innovation Pitch Competition.

INDUSTRY MENTORS will support you through creative ideation, help you position a unique value proposition in the market, and provide real-world feedback on your pitch.

CULTURAL COACHES will keep your solutions global, with cultural insight to guide development of your concept, enhance your impact, and maximize your global reach.

Community Engagement Lab (Academic Programs International)

COLLABORATE WITH A VIRTUAL COMMUNITY
Engage with a team of peers to produce an action plan to support community-based organizations locally with a global perspective.

Learn from cultural coaches and field experts about various approaches to community organizing, advocacy, civic engagement, and allyship for marginalized communities.

Build a global-to-local advocacy action plan leveraging a domestic and international network of community partners to enact change.

API’S DIGITAL BADGE PROGRAM
As part of this program, you complete activities and exercises earning you a Global-to-Local Community Engagement Badge.

API has partnered with some of our top international university partners from around the world to offer their expansive course catalogs to our students for a truly global, borderless and connected experience!

We are also available to help you build your perfect track. Take anywhere from 1 to 6 online courses with the option to add API’s Innovation Lab or Virtual Global Internship, or courses from your own university.

As part of this program, you complete activities and exercises earning you a Global Agility Badge.

Virtual Short-Term Spanish Study with Universidad de Salamanca (Academic Programs International)

Begin or enhance your Spanish language skills with an intensive two-week or month-long virtual session with the Universidad de Salamanca in Spain. Earn academic credit by completing Spanish language and culture coursework taught in Spanish from international instructors.

Program participants will have the opportunity to culminate their virtual learning experience with an optional 7-16 day excursion in January or March of 2021! Students will experience the rich cultural heritage of the country of their choice through various tours, visits to historic sites, and opportunities to experience the local culture firsthand. Students interested in this option may select one excursion and will be charged an additional fee. Please note that participants must be 18 or older by the program start date. The international excursions require minimum enrollment per location and itineraries are subject to change.

Virtual Short-Term Spanish Study with Universidad Veritas, Costa Rica (Academic Programs International)

Begin or enhance your Spanish language skills with an intensive, month-long virtual session with Universidad Veritas in San José, Costa Rica! Earn academic credit by completing Spanish language coursework taught in Spanish by native speakers.

Program participants will have the opportunity to culminate their virtual learning experience with an optional 7-16 day excursion in January or March of 2021! Students will experience the rich cultural heritage of the country of their choice through various tours, visits to historic sites, and opportunities to experience the local culture firsthand. Students interested in this option may select one excursion and will be charged an additional fee. Please note that participants must be 18 or older by the program start date. The international excursions require minimum enrollment per location and itineraries are subject to change.

3+3 Thematic Programs (SIT Study Abroad)

These programs involve a dynamic, three-week learning environment online in July followed by a three-week immersive course in January that puts the online course content into sharp relief in the program country.

3+3 Language Programs (SIT Study Abroad)

Each program offers three weeks of online study and/or three weeks abroad. The online course is open to all applicants who meet specific program requirements. The in-person J-term is open to college undergraduates who have completed the online term or who provide proof of completed requirements (or the equivalent) for the program.
