Ramapo Honors – International Opportunities
How does studying or interning abroad fit with the Ramapo Honors Program?
Ramapo College Honors Program students are encouraged through a distinctive and diverse curriculum to pursue intercultural, international and experiential learning in their field of study. Participating in a Study Abroad program as an honors program member during your time at Ramapo College will allow you to become a global citizen. Experiencing life in other countries and cultures, developing foreign language skills, broadening your worldview, and making lifelong friends while earning college credit are just some of the ways students benefit from their time abroad. Many students use Study Abroad to prepare for graduate school and future employment. Most importantly, students remember and value their study abroad experiences for the rest of their lives.
Students in the College Honors Program who enroll in a study abroad program that is at least 4 weeks long may substitute one study abroad course for HNRS 220 or HNRS 320. Course substitutions for semester length study abroad programs will be evaluated on a case by case basis.

Ramapo in South India
16 credit, Spring Semester Program
Students register for 4 sequential courses (each worth 4 credits) for a total of 16 credits in one of two tracks: “Development & Sustainability” or “Media, Culture & the Arts”. Courses fulfill requirements in the Sociology, International Studies, and Environmental Studies majors, the Anthropology minor, and may apply to some General Education requirements as well. Course credit towards other majors is possible with permission. As a student you will “live your courses”. All of these courses include a wide range of experiential learning opportunities such as frequent trips to temples, markets, urban and rural development projects, and cultural sites. Students will also view and respond to a series of Indian films.
Students who enroll in the Semester in South India Program may make the following substitutions:
- HNRS 220 International Issues = INTD 302 Indian Society and Culture (fulfills Gen Ed International Issues)
- HNRS 320 Ethics = INTD 301 Sustainable Development in India (fulfills Gen Ed International Issues)
- Research from the course INTD 409 Field Study Seminar can be used as the basis for the Senior Honors Project.

Students register for 2 courses (each worth 4 credits) for a total of 8 credits. Direct Enrollment Program – Summer, Fall or Spring Semester, or Academic Year options
JCU takes pride in emphasizing the development of critical thinking, communication and research skills; enhancing your knowledge about ideas and culture, but most importantly, it will teach you to think and adapt. This intellectual agility provides you with a strong advantage over those who have not had a significant international experience that will help you to advance in your career or pursue graduate study or both. Students may study in a U.S. College environment in an international environment, and take courses in a diversity of disciplines. Honors courses available.

EuroScholars (various locations in Europe)
EuroScholars is a unique experience which allows highly motivated students to spend a semester participating in a professional academic research project at one of Europe’s most prestigious universities. The program offers opportunities at nine universities in six different countries on mainland Europe: Belgium, Finland, Germany, The Netherlands, Sweden, and Switzerland. While performing their research, students will also have the opportunity to learn the language and culture of the host country. Research opportunities exist in many fields, including liberal arts/humanities, social sciences, biological sciences, physical sciences, and engineering. Gaining research experience at an undergraduate level will give participants invaluable academic experience and set them apart from other applicants when applying to graduate school or research-related work. The student will be an active member of the research team.International Studies Abroad (ISA), the EuroScholar’s North American Office, will manage the student’s application process. Once a student has been accepted, the host university will assist the student in pre-departure coordination.
Hebrew University: Rothberg International School
(Jerusalem, Israel)
Spring Honors Program
This exciting joint initiative of Harvard University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem is designed for outstanding students in their third and fourth years of study who are looking for a unique intellectual challenge. Participants study together with Israelis in advanced-level courses offered in English by various departments of the Hebrew University. Hebrew and Arabic language classes are available at different levels of expertise. Students experience Israel through field trips, social encounters with prominent Israelis, supervised internships, independent research projects and a variety of extracurricular activities. The program runs from mid-January to late June. (Spring 2016 dates: January 18 – June 22, 2016 + exams if relevant) NOTE: American students accepted to Spring in Jerusalem are automatically eligible for a scholarship.See here for full information.
