The Digital Filmmaking major promotes the craft of filmmaking through the use of hands-on experience using state-of the art technology. The curriculum of this major focuses on exposing students to a variety of film-making styles and topics like screenwriting, visual story-telling, idea development, and more. In this program students normally aim for careers in film/television development, film production, advertising, and other media related careers. Studying abroad is a great way to internationalize and build on the skills already learned in the classroom.
Studying Abroad can help diversify a student’s knowledge of film and other media. By studying film on a global level different techniques and subject matter are introduced. This international perspective on film and television will enrich skills already possessed by the student and impress future employers as well.
The Study Abroad programs offered by the Roukema Center can tie into the courses taught in the Digital Filmmaking program at Ramapo by region or subject matter. For instance, because Ramapo Digital Filmmaking faculty members have regional expertise in Europe, the Middle-East, Asia, and The Americas, it could be easy and exciting to promote specific programs in these parts of the world to our students. (see for instance pages 4-13 of this report that have these sorts of programs) On the other hand, because our faculty has substantive expertise in social movements, labor rights, immigration, women and development, crime, and media, we may be able to make programs like those in this report especially appealing to students.
This competitive exchange program (maximum of 2 students/semester) provides students with the unique opportunity to enroll in film courses at Anglia Ruskin University, located in Cambridge, England, UK. Get a solid grounding in film history and theory, and use a critical knowledge of film culture to explore ideas when creating your own film projects. You’ll discover a wide spectrum of approaches to the moving image, and develop specialist interests with subjects like film practice, reviewing, theory and screenwriting.
