This scholarship was created by family, friends and colleagues to honor the memory of Ramapo College Professor Timothy J. Burns, a cherished member of the Anisfield School of Business since 2004. Tim passed away in July 2025.
Tim, as he was warmly known, earned a Ph.D. in Information Systems from New Jersey Institute of Technology, an MBA from Iona College, and a B.S. from Florida Atlantic University. Drawing on over 25 years as a practitioner and consultant—including work with Fortune 100 firms—he brought real-world insight into developing and delivering courses such as Systems Analysis & Design, Principles of Information Systems, Cybersecurity, Digital Forensics, Computer Law & Ethics, and Business Analytics. His scholarly contributions were equally robust: he was often sought after by his peers and co-authored influential works such as A Cross Collegiate Analysis of the Curricula of Business Analytics Minors Programs (2019) and Investigating a 21st‑Century Paradox: As the Demand for Technology Jobs Increases, Why Are Fewer Students Majoring in Information Systems? (2014).
Tim’s commitment to excellence—both in teaching and research—shaped countless careers, leaving an indelible mark on student lives and on the Anisfield School of Business. His blend of rigor, authenticity, and empathy made him not only a respected educator but also a wonderful mentor and friend.
