Born in Plainfield, New Jersey, Karen Sweeney attended South Plainfield High School, and then earned a degree in Communication Arts from Ramapo College. Karen served as Vice President of Operations for Barnes & Noble College where she was an exceptional executive and a compassionate and inspiring leader. “Her contributions to the success of her company, her people and the colleges and universities we serve were significant and meaningful,” said Lisa Malat, President of Barnes & Noble College.
Karen enjoyed traveling, especially in Europe, and spent much time on Cape Cod, where her family lives. She was an unrelenting champion for all aspiring leaders, particularly young women who gravitated to Karen’s positive energy and thoughtful and committed mentoring.
This award is intended for aspiring women leaders enrolled in the Anisfield School of Business.
Christine Lam of Parsippany, N.J. is an Accounting major. She has a 3.9 GPA. She is a Deans Scholarship recipient and is part of the EOF Program. She has made the Dean’s List each semester and is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and Tri-Alpha Society.
At Ramapo, Christine has been active in numerous organizations including being the 2023-2024 External Vice-President & 2022-2023 Sergeant at Arms of the United Asian Association and an active contributor to the Honors Program, where she attended the National Collegiate Honors Council (NCHC) Conference 2023.
Christine has also been involved in off-campus activities including raising awareness for food insecurity as she volunteers at the Ho Chi Minh Food Pantry whenever she visits Vietnam. Back in Parsippany, she helps out at the Parsippany Emergency Food Pantry to aid those in need. Christine also creates and donates hand-made greeting cards to children’s specialized hospitals as a way to encourage and cheer them on. She is set to return to her tax internship where she is excited to learn more about the accounting profession and to develop her team skills.
Elizabeth Tom of Bergen County, N.J is a junior Finance major with 3.6 GPA, achieved the Dean’s List every semester, and is expected to graduate a year early.
At Ramapo, Elizabeth has served as the Secretary of RCNJ Hillel, a general member of the RCNJ Rock Climbing Club, and member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Elizabeth has also served as an educator and peer mentor at Ramapo.
After graduation, Elizabeth hopes to continue her education by pursuing a Master’s degree.

Brianna Michel Carter of Newark, N.J. is a Marketing major. Her 3.51 GPA has continuously put her on the Dean’s List. She is also a member of Ramapo’s Women’s Basketball Team. Brianna also partakes in on-campus clubs and organizations such as Ramapo’s Women in Business.
