Peter Leavy Memorial Scholarship

Peter Leavy (1929- 2024) relished and celebrated life. A successful businessman in the textile industry, Peter later found his true passion in cabaret performance, becoming one of its most ardent supporters in the New York cabaret community. In addition to devoting himself to cabaret and the performing arts, Peter had a long connection to Cabaret Scenes magazine, serving as a contributing writer beginning in 1994. In 2007, he became the magazine’s publisher and steered the magazine to greater success, expanding its content and subscriber base, and transitioning from a black-and-white format to full color.

Earlier in his career, Peter was a contributor to Seventeen magazine as a writer and columnist; prior to that, he was a writer-editor on Stars and Stripes during his enlistment in the Army.

This second scholarship endowment created by long time Friend of Ramapo Rosalie Berlin, the Peter Leavy Memorial Scholarship honors the spirit of Mr. Leavy and his passion for the art of writing. It is intended for students majoring in communication arts or literature.
