Increased media coverage about the trending drug Ozempic, among others, draws concerns for those who battle eating disorders. Dr. Jessica Saunders, assistant professor of psychology at Ramapo College, spoke with Time magazine about the dangers that can arise for this population from increased media coverage of the drug’s use to lose weight rather than its labeled use to manage Type 2 diabetes. “It is probably both triggering for people in eating-disorder recovery and encouraging folks who are vulnerable to developing an eating disorder,” Saunders says. “It might be planting a lot of seeds in a way that is pretty dangerous.”
