Join us for an interview with International Honors programalumna (1985-86) Maria Agui Carter, who is the founder of Iguana Films anda professor of Media Arts at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. Theconversation will reflect on Carter’s journey growing up as an undocumentedimmigrant who became an influential filmmaker, writer, and professor, and willdelve into her creative work and goals for storytelling that impacts socialchange. Carter’s recent work includes REBEL, winner of a 2014 Erik Barnouwaward for best historical films in America, and the PBS series SCIGIRLS, whichwas nominated for a 2019 daytime Emmy. She is now shooting ALLEGED, adocumentary project about Patricia Esparza, a woman who was imprisoned for themurder of her rapist by her boyfriend. In development, is her magical realistfeature script SECRET LIFE OF LA MARIPOSA, a fable on immigration and climatechange based on her experiences growing up.
