Social Gathering Policy

SOCIAL GATHERING POLICY

The following guidelines have been established to define Ramapo College’s Social Gathering Policy. These guidelines are in effect at all times.

The chart below lists the occupancy limit for each housing unit (room, suite, and apartment) within our Residence Halls and Apartment Complexes. Occupancy limit is defined as the maximum number of persons permitted within a housing unit at any time, including residents assigned to the unit.

Social Gathering Policy Chart

Obstruction of the free flow of pedestrian or vehicular traffic on College premises or at College-sponsored or supervised events or activities are prohibited. Additionally, congregating on Village stairwells and balconies are prohibited. Individuals or groups who obstruct the free flow of others will be instructed to clear the area and may be referred to the Office of Student Conduct.

Below are some conditions, not an exhaustive list, the college regards as an inappropriate gathering and will lead to the termination of the gathering:

  • Number of persons present exceeds occupancy limits;
  • Any law is being violated;
  • Hosts are charging a fee for entry to the gathering;
  • Disorderly/inappropriate behavior of persons is taking in and/or outside of the housing unit;
  • Evidence suggests another violation of a College Policy is taking place.

The College may consider a violation of the Alcohol, Cannabis, Other Drug, and Good Samaritan Policy should any of the following conditions exist:

  • The presence of alcohol in housing units where alcohol is prohibited and/or any person present are not of legal drinking age;
  • Evidence suggests there is excessive drinking or drinking game(s) or another violation of a College Policy is taking place;
  • Alcohol, Cannabis, Other Drug and Good Samaritan Policy.

The host(s) may be Interim Suspended if any of the above conditions exist or if it is deemed necessary by the responding college official.

Recommended Sanctions for Social Gathering Violations:

1st Violation – not less than a $150 fine, Probation, possible Suspension of Activities Privileges, and possible Suspension of Residence Privileges.

2nd Violation – not less than a $300 fine, Disciplinary Probation, Suspension of Residence Privileges, and possible Suspension of Activities Privileges.
