MSWK 501/502 – Social Work Theory and Practice I & II
Welcome to Practicum Education
- Step 1: Update your resume using the Resume Writing Guide and the Sample SW Resume. All resumes must be formatted using the guide. Students with resumes that are not correctly formatted will not be able to proceed in the placement process.
- Step 2: Set up your Tevera account following the instructions in the account set up invitation delivered via email. The practicum department uses this online platform to monitor practicum placements and assignments. Tevera serves as a resource to students, being a central location for all field documents. The platform also assists in keeping practicum assignments and requirements organized. Students will have lifetime access to practicum documents.
- Step 3: Complete your Tevera tasks as instructed below:
- Under the “Site Placements” section, you will see Pre-Application Tasks. Please proceed and complete the following tasks under this section:
- Practicum Application
- Upload your correctly formatted resume
- Once complete, the tasks will read “Waiting on MSW Site Approval Group”. You can now move on to the next step. Your documents will not be reviewed until you move on to Step 5.
- Both tasks MUST be completed to proceed to the next step. Rest assured that you will learn more about Tevera during your mandatory Practicum Readiness Training held in August (details TBD).
- Step 4: (optional) For students with a specific agency in mind that is not listed on the Practicum Sites A-Z list, please complete the Agency Information Form. Agencies on this list may not presently be accepting interns. Placement availability is always subject to change. Submit the form prior to your placement interview.
For students seeking an employment based placement, please review the guidelines (included in the proposal form) to ensure eligibility, consult with your employer, and complete the Employment Based Placement Proposal. The completed form must be submitted prior to your placement interview. Final approval is granted by the Director of Practicum Education. Students submitting a proposal do NOT also have to complete an Agency Information Form.
- Step 5: After completing steps 1-3 (step 4 is optional), please use this LINK to let us know that you are ready to book your practicum placement interview. Steps 1-3 MUST be complete.
- Step 6: Schedule your placement interview using the Calendly link made available on the submission page of the form in Step 5. Interviews and placements are coordinated on a first come first serve basis.
- Step 7: Come prepared and attend your placement interview. This individual interview allows the practicum team to explore your interests, experience, etc., to determine the best placement option for you. Please come to this virtual interview fully prepared as though it were with a potential employer (professionalism, attire, etc.).
- Step 8: Look out for a placement letter on Tevera under Site Details. Once a potential placement has been identified, students are expected to contact the agency to arrange an interview as soon as possible. Contact information for the agency is included in the student’s placement letter. Students should review the MSW Interview Preparation Document prior to reaching out to the agency.
- If offered a position, please do your best to determine who your Practicum Instructor (supervisor) will be.
- Step 9: Complete all Tevera tasks as assigned. Tevera is the primary way the Practicum Education Department monitors placements. Following your interview with the agency, students MUST complete the following:
- Interview Feedback Form
- Site Supervisor Application
- Supervisor Start & End Dates: Use these dates – START: 8/25/25 END: 5/12/26
Students will not be accurately linked to their sites and supervisors if these steps are not complete.
- Step 10: Take a deep breath! Congratulations on completing your practicum placement process. At this point, you are all set. We look forward to connecting again soon.
- Step 11: Report to mandatory Practicum Readiness Training held in August. Details will be sent out via email as soon as they are finalized. Students MUST attend this training in order to begin their placements in the Fall.
