Union Foundation Scholarship

The Union Foundation provides grants for endowment and capital projects, with particular emphasis on projects in Union County, New Jersey. “Preference is given to organizations … which show efforts to encourage individuals to help themselves.”

In 1999 the Warren, New Jersey-based Foundation awarded a grant to Ramapo College to establish the Union Foundation Endowed Scholarship. Students from Union County are eligible to receive these awards.

  • GPA 3.5+

This scholarship is not awarded through the application process.

Kristina Hollosi

“After graduation, I hope to find meaningful ways to contribute to a sustainable society,” says Environmental Science major Kristina Hollosi from Westfield, N.J.

As part of the Leaders In Service (LIS) program at Ramapo, she came to the campus before the semester began to learn leadership skills and work on community service projects at Celery Farm and MEVO. Through LIS, she was introduced to the Student Government Association, which inspired her to run as a candidate. After organizing a successful campaign, she got elected as a Senator-at-Large. She is very proud to serve as the Public Safety Liaison of SGA and an active member of the Sustainability Committee. She helps the committee work on different projects, strikes and tablings. She is also a member of 1STEP and the newly re-established club, Plant Strong.

Off-campus, Kristina has a job tutoring an elementary school student with special needs. She also hopes to find study abroad or alternative break opportunities to expand her horizons.



2017 Recipient

Austin Miller

Austin Miller is a junior Biochemistry major with a 3.56 GPA. He has earned Dean’s List and is a part of the College Honors Program.

At Ramapo, Austin has served as Resident Assistant for first-year students, helping to ease their transition to college, and is currently serving upperclassmen.

Off campus, Austin has extensive experience as an EMT, being employed by a private service, in addition to qualifying as a Top Responder and serving as Lieutenant of his local EMS squad for multiple years. He is also currently employed as a Pharmacy Technician at a local pharmacy.  After graduating, Austin plans on studying pharmacy in pursuit of becoming a licensed pharmacist in a hospital or specialized setting.



2016 Recipient

Michael Flood

Michael Flood of Pequannock, NJ is an Environmental Science major with a minor in Earth Science.  He has a 4.0 GPA.

On campus, Michael is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and 1 Step (Students Together for Environmental Progress).  He is also a tutor for Environmental Chemistry.

In addition to volunteering for the Boy Scouts, Michael has worked on an organic farm in Wantage, NJ for the past 14 years, initially as a volunteer, where he has learned about agriculture and farm operations.  He recently applied for a Northeastern Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education grant from the USDA looking at using birds on farms as a way to curb insect destruction on plants.

“Post-graduation, I would like to go into the field of forest management or work in an agricultural extension department doing soil/plant analyses and educating people on various sustainable agricultural practices. “

Colleen Jones

Colleen Jones of Cranford, N.J. is a nursing major. She has a 3.504 grade point average.

At Ramapo, Colleen has been active in several organizations and activities, including the Nursing Student Organization and Relay for Life. She also is an active member of Sigma Delta Tau where she served as the Vice President of Scholarship for the 2014-2015 terms.

Colleen has also been involved in off –campus activities, including teaching special needs children how to swim at Children’s Specialized Hospital, volunteering with the Girl Scouts of Washington Rock Council and teaching handicapped individuals how to fish with the Newark Bait and Fly Casting Club.

Arthur Nolasco

“I have worked for the past three semesters as a biology lab assistant,” says Arthur Nolasco, who is pursuing dual majors in Biology and Psychology. Arthur is vice president of the Biology Club and is a member of the Golden Key International Honour Society. He is proficient in three languages. In addition to his work in the Ramapo bio labs,Arthur works for Affina Door company and plays in a soccer league. He has earned a 3.74 grade point average. Arthur lives in Union, NJ.

Gabriela Serrano

Gabriela Serrano is from Elizabeth, New Jersey. She is a sophomore majoring in biology, while pursuing a minor in Italian. She has earned a 3.46 grade point average.
