Mytelka, Lynn Krieger Memorial Scholarship

Lynn Krieger Mytelka was a pioneering scholar in international development, professor at universities in both Canada and Europe, author of more than 3,000 scholarly publications, and served as a director of United Nations organizations. At her death at age 78 in 2021, her brother Arnold Mytelka chose to honor her memory by creating an endowed scholarship in her name. This is the third scholarship at Ramapo College endowed by Mr. Mytelka, who served as chairman of the College’s Board of Trustees from 1979 to 1980.

The purpose of the Lynn Krieger Mytelka Memorial Scholarship is to assist first generation students with the cost of attendance at Ramapo College.

  • Essay Topic: Write an essay (no more than 250 words) about your experience as a first gen student

2024 Recipient

Ashley Hernandez

Ashley Hernandez of Newark, N.J. is a Nursing major with a 3.7 GPA and a proud member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

At Ramapo, Ashley is active in several organizations such as the First Generation Organization, acting as vice president, the Educational Opportunity Fund and the Association of Latinos Moving Ahead.

She has also been involved in off- campus activities, such as being a Catechism student.


2023 Recipient

Maral Celikel

Maral Celikel of Montvale, N.J. is a Biology student in the accelerated Physical Therapy program. She has a 3.7 GPA and is on the Dean’s List.

At Ramapo, Maral is an active member in both the Pre-Med/Pre-Health Club and Biology Club. Maral serves as the secretary of the Armenian Student Association.

Maral has also interned and served as an aide at the Spine and Health Center of N.J., as well as working as a crew member at Chipotle.

“I am most proud of my internship position I held in high school. I was working alongside different medical professionals. Which led me in the direction of my future career as a physical therapist” adds Maral.

Maral hopes to attend graduate school to receive her doctorate in physical therapy after she graduates from Ramapo with her bachelor’s degree.
