Jean, Drs. Daniel and Aneesha EOF Advantage Scholarship

The Drs. Daniel and Aneesha Jean EOF Advantage Scholarship was established in 2017 by Newark native Dr. Daniel Jean EOF ’97, and his wife, Paterson native, Dr. Aneesha Jean ’00. It is to provide funding to highly motivated EOF students who originate from the Jeans’ hometowns.

  • Student must be currently enrolled in the EOF program
  • A Newark or Paterson native
  • GPA 3.0+
  • Applicants much complete an essay that addresses the topic: How the environment you were raised in shaped who you are, and how EOF has helped to further your goals

Polin Malik

Polin Malik from Paterson, N.J. is a Junior nursing major.

At Ramapo, Polin is part of the EOF program, Nursing Student Organization, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and the Muslim Student Association (MSA). Off campus, she volunteered at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center located in Paterson, NJ and St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital.

“I wish to achieve my dream of becoming a Registered Nurse and to continue my studies by attending graduate school,” says Polin about her future goals.

2022 Recipients

Polin Malik

Polin Malik of Paterson, N.J. is a Nursing major with a 3.5 GPA. 

At Ramapo, Polin is a part of the EOF program, Nursing Student Organization, the Alliance of EOF and Friends and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. Off campus, she has volunteered at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center and St. Joseph’s Wayne Hospital.  

Her goals are to achieve her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse and to continue her studies to become a Nurse Anesthetist.  

Mya Olive

“I want to remind women that our gender doesn’t define our success,” says Mya Olive. “We can succeed just as a man can.” 

Mya is a Marketing major from Hillside, N.J. and is part of the EOF Program. She works at the Potter Library on campus. 

Post-graduation, she hopes to become a fashion influencer and real estate agent. “I am proud to say that I have found the right major that fits me,” says Mya.



2021 Recipients

Diondra Curtis-Downey

“I plan on using my platform to inspire others to see the good in the world,” says Diondra Curtis-Downey of Englewood, N.J. Diondra is a Music major with a concentration in Vocal Performance. An EOF scholar, she has a 3.6 GPA and has been on the Dean’s List since her first semester.

Diondra is in Ramapo Chorale and the following Intermediate Choral Ensembles: Skylark and CantaNova. Off-campus, she has volunteered with Heroes and Cool Kids, where she helps elementary students make good decisions. She’s also involved with the TRUTH organization at her church.

“I am proud of the progress I’ve made in my journey as a musician,” says Diondra. 


Katherine Morales

Katherine Morales of Paterson, N.J. is a sophomore Nursing major with a 3.77 GPA. She is a first-generation college student and has received the Outstanding Leadership by a First-Year Student Award.

Katherine is involved in the Nursing Student Organization, CAC/Relay For Life, and is a Ramapo Admissions Student Ambassador. Off-campus, she is involved with House on the Hill and is an ENHANCE Peer Mentor. On the weekends, she catches up with old friends, likes to dance, and spends time with her family as her way of taking care of herself.

Post-graduation, Katherine will become a Registered Nurse advanced in Spanish language. She will likely continue her studies to become a Nurse Practitioner. 


Tyra Asberry

“My goal is to decrease mental illness in the prison system and void the cycle between poverty, mental illness, and retributive justice,” says Tyra Asberry of Newark, N.J. Tyra is a senior Psychology major with a minor in Crime and Justice Studies. She has a 3.5 cumulative GPA and has made the Dean’s List multiple times.

Tyra is on the e-board for the Black Student Union. She is also a part of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Alpha Lambda Delta, and Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society. After her freshman year, she interned at Newark Municipal Court twice to begin her career journey. Her other interests are reading and mentoring.



2020 Recipient

Noe Ramirez

Through hard work and dedication, Finance major Noe Ramirez is proud to say he reached a GPA of a 3.475 in the fall semester of 2019. “I don’t plan to stop there, as I’m constantly working on becoming the better version of myself.”

Noe is a commuter student and currently exploring what opportunities Ramapo has in store for him. He works off campus as a part-time sales associate at Staples, but would like to pursue a career as a financial advisor. “I want to set an example for first-generation college students that want to make a difference in their community.”

His hometown is Paterson, N.J.



2020 Recipient

Alexis Amaya Jones

“My hope post-graduation is to work for a record label and seek talent. I want to show young people how to realize their dreams, and mentor them when they are struggling with ideas,” says Music Industry major Alexis Amaya Jones of Newark, N.J.

Alexis has a GPA of 3.23 and is part of Leaders in Service and the EOF program. She has worked at the Children’s Place, the Mills at Jersey Gardens, Adidas, and as a babysitter.



2019 Recipients

Javier Guzman

“I am most proud of being a first generation college student,” says Javier Guzman of Paterson, N.J.  Javier is an Information Technology major with a 3.4 GPA who made the Dean’s List in the summer and fall of 2017.

Off-campus, Javier is involved with the Alumni of the Taub Foundation and currently works part time at Lakeland Bank.  “I hope to graduate with honors and work in cyber security,” Javier says.


Janiya Wade

“I will be my parent’s first child to graduate from college and therefore I take my education very seriously,” says Janiya Wade of Newark, N.J. Janiya is a Business Major with a concentration in Management. She has a 3.1 GPA.  Janiya works on campus as a student assistant in the ASB Graduate Program office.

“I’m proud to have earned a spot on the Spring 2018 Dean’s List, and to have been inducted into the Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society in the Spring 2018 as well. These accomplishments are a result of my hard work ethic and discipline.”

Janiya’s goal post graduation is to work for a media or entertainment company. “I want to put my degree to work, and also be a successful representative of women of color.”



2018 Recipients

Janiya Wade

“I take my education very seriously and it is something I am passionate about. I’m proud to be the first child in my family to graduate from college,” says Janiya Wade of Newark, N.J. Janiya is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Management. She has a 3.0 GPA.

Janiya works on campus as an office assistant in the Center for Innovative and Professional Learning. “My goal post graduation is to work at a Fortune 500 company, preferably in Newark, because not only do I want to put my degree to work, I want to work in the very city I was born and raised.”


Sylvester Watkins III

Returning adult student Sylvester Watkins III is an Economics major. He has a 3.3 GPA. He attended Ramapo in the 1990s and has returned to complete his degree. Sylvester volunteers his time with the Black Student Union to assist those in need.  “Once I graduate I plan to give workshops and seminars on finance to underprivileged communities.”
