Footstar/Meldisco Scholarship

Footstar, which operated footwear departments in K-Mart and Rite Aid stores on the West Coast, was a long-standing supporter of Ramapo College. Meldisco, a subsidiary of Footstar, was located close to the College in Mahwah, NJ. Meldisco began supporting Ramapo in 1987 and provided major support toward the construction of the College Bandshell. In 1999 the Ramapo College Foundation honored a former Footstar Chairman, Mickey Robinson, at its Distinguished Citizens Dinner. In recognition of this honor, Footstar affiliates around the world created this endowed scholarship fund at Ramapo College. The scholarship benefits students in the Anisfield School of Business.

2023 Recipients

Alexandria Kim

Alexandria Kim of Swedesboro, N.I. is an Accounting Major at the Anisfield School of Business. She has a 4.0 GPA and is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honors Society. 

At Ramapo, Alexandria is the Treasurer of Women in Business and Treasurer of the Fashion Club. She is also involved in A Moment of Magic. 

After graduation, Alexandria plans on pursuing the 4+1 Masters of Business Administration program offered at Ramapo and hopes to have a career in the business accounting field.

Fatima Bartel

Fatima Bartel of Union, N.J. is a Business Administration-Management major with a Human Resource Management minor. She is a senior with a 4.0 GPA.

At Ramapo, Fatima has been active in the Women’s Center, the College Progressive’s Club, and recently the ASB Dean’s Student Council. She works with ASB staff and other dedicated ASB students to improve the overall student learning experience. Fatima is also a part of the honor society Beta Gamma Sigma.

She has interned at two companies, start-up company Super Purposes LLC and data analytics firm USEReady.



2019 Recipients

Jadin Luzuriaga

Jadin Luzuriaga of Bergenfield, N.J. has a 3.93 GPA and is currently aiming for a Bachelors in Business Administration.

Outside of Ramapo, Jadin takes online courses for professional certificates and is learning to code. He enjoys reading as a hobby.

While he is leaning towards majoring in business, Jadin has an interest in programming as well. During the STEM C2 Summit at Bergen Community College, he won second place at the IBM Hackathon. He has also done research in several science fields during high school. “These experiences have influenced me to pursue higher levels of attainment in diverse fields.”

Erika Mandingin

Erika Mandingin of Clifton, N.J. is a senior Accounting major and is a student in the Master’s of Science in Accounting program. She holds a 3.7 GPA and has earned a spot on the Dean’s List each semester. She was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society, Omicron Delta Kappa Honor Society, and was President of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society.

Erika has served as Vice President of Ramapo Esports Club, Coordinator for Ramapo’s Collegiate Starleague, and as a member of the International Student Organization. Erika has also served as a volunteer Referee for Clifton’s Play Unified Special Olympics. Currently, she works at Club Pilates West New York and Hoboken as their Social Media Director.

Erika plans to pursue a career in accounting and take the CPA Examination.


2018 Recipients

Christal Torres

Christal Torres of West Milford, N.J. is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing. She has a 3.98 GPA. Christal has been on the Dean’s List every semester and was inducted into the Beta Gamma Sigma Honor Society.

 

At Ramapo, Christal is part of the Ramapo Admissions Student Ambassadors, Enactus, and the Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity, where she has held a leadership position as Marketing Chair.


“I recently interned in Dublin, Ireland where I learned about business operations in an advertising technology firm. Through that experience, I found a passion in data analytics and cross-functional collaboration.”

 

After her graduation date in December 2017, Christal is excited to pursue her MBA as well as a career in Business Operations.


Ana C. Cardenas

Ana C. Cardenas of Hasbrouck Heights, N.J. is an Accounting major with a minor in Economics. She has a 3.89 GPA.

“I’m proud to have been recognized early in my academic career to be a part of a prestigious business fraternity, Beta Gamma Sigma.” Ana hopes to continue at Ramapo for a fifth year in the Masters in Accounting program. She also plans to complete the requirements to obtain her CPA license.

Off campus, Ana works at H&M, where she supervises and trains new employees and creates operations and sales plans. “As the first generation in my family to seek a higher education, I hope to apply all the skills, knowledge, and experience I’ve acquired to my profession.”  Her long-term career goal is to work as a senior officer for a public accounting firm.

Dan Plessner

Dan Plessner from Suffern, N.Y. is an Economics major with a Mathematics minor.

He is a member of the First Year Honor Society Alpha Lambda Delta and the International Honor Society for Economics Omicron Delta Epsilon. For the past two years Dan was a representative member of the College’s Federal Reserve Challenge economics competition team. “The experience of the Fed Challenge Team has developed my knowledge and outlook on the American and global economies.”



2017 Recipients

Keith Ellebracht

Keith Ellebracht is a Senior Accounting Major. He currently has a 3.77 GPA, and will be graduating in May. Keith works as the Assistant Residence Director of Mackin Hall on campus, and has been in Residence Life since his Sophomore year. He is also a member of the Dean’s Advisory Council for the Anisfield School of Business, as well as the Honors Program Student Executive Board.

Keith has previously held internships at Morgan Stanley and KPMG, and will be working for PriceWaterhouseCoopers after graduation.


Nichole Francisco

“As the first member of my family to go to college in America, I am so thankful for the donors for enabling me to get a quality education,” says Nichole Francisco of New Milford, NJ. Nichole is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing. She has a 4.0 GPA

At Ramapo, Nichole has been a part of several main-stage theater productions, and is part of the Ramapo Chorale and Gospel Choir. She has also worked as a consultant at the Center for Reading and Writing for three years.

Nichole’s internship experience has included stints at CNBC, USA & Syfy, as well as Bleecker Street Media.  After graduation, she hopes to continue a career in entertainment marketing.

Jonathan Adam is from Scotch Plains, NJ  and is majoring in Economics.

Emily Hutton

Emily Hutton of Leonia, NJ is a Literature and International Business major (concentrating in Marketing and East Asian Studies) with a minor in Women and Gender Studies. She has a 3.9 GPA, is part of the College Honors Program, and is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the business honor society.

Emily is President of the Sci-Fi Club and served as Vice President Gender Equality during her sophomore year.

Off campus, Emily has volunteered for the North Jersey Academic Challenge.

Steven Tartaglia

Steven Tartaglia of Wayne, NJ is an Accounting major with a 3.4 grade point average.  He has been inducted into the National Collegiate Honor Society and the National Honor Society for First-Year Students (Alpha Lambda Delta).

Steven has been active in several organizations and activities, including NORML and the Accounting Club.

Off campus, Steven is involved in the Boy Scouts of America.

Nichole Francisco

Nichole Francisco of New Milford, NJ is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Marketing. She is minoring in Music. Nichole is a member of Enactus, the Filipino American Student Association and the Ramapo College Honors Program. She was named to Alpha Psi Omega, the National Theater Honor Society. Nichole also holds a job off campus. She will graduate with honors. “I am very happy that my hard work from high school and college has paid off,” she said. “Education in this country is expensive. I believe that rewarding excellent students with scholarships is a great practice.” Nichole has a 4.00 grade point average.

Ashley Orlando

Ashley Orlando of Hazlet, N.J., is a business administration major with a concentration in management. She has a 3.95 grade point average.
At Ramapo, Ashley said she has learned the power of dedication and determination. She is a consultant at the Center for Reading and Writing and a fitness center supervisor in the Bradley Center. She is treasurer of SHRM, vice president of Beta Gamma Sigma and fundraising chair for Alpha Kappa Psi.


Susan Walsh

Susan Walsh is a junior majoring in Information Systems and has earned a 3.30 grade point average. She attended Georgian Court College before attending Ramapo. Susan is from Point Pleasant, NJ.

My scholarship will allow me to complete my education in Information Technology Management and thus contribute to our future which is constantly changing because of the technology that surrounds us.


2013 Recipients

Michael Baamonde

Michael Baamonde of Wyckoff, NJ is an Accounting major. He is a member of the Accounting Club. Michael chose Accounting because “it allowed my logical mathematics side to find an answer based upon a formula; it also allowed my social side to thrive since there is so much personal interaction,” he says. He plans to attain a CPA license. Michael has a 3.74 grade point average.

Christopher Auteri

Christopher Auteri of Franklin Lakes, NJ is an Information Systems major with a concentration in Web Development and a Computer Science minor. He is president of the Computer and Technology Club, a member of the Video Game Club and was inducted into Beta Gamma Sigma and the New Jersey Collegiate Business Administration honor societies. He was a coleader of Computer Science Honors Research at the College. Christopher worked as a database architect for UPS, an IT business analyst at another company and an assistant virtual reality programmer at the College. Of his education at Ramapo Christopher says, “With my education comes professors who not only challenge me, but also can attest to my capabilities, transcripts and show employers what I have learned thus far and skills that are relevant to the IT industry.” He has a 3.9 grade point average.

Kloudya Molina

“I was born in Los Andes, Chile and my childhood was built around an international lifestyle where I learned to speak and understand multiple languages including Spanish, Arabic and French. I came to the United States to expand my opportunities and learned English,” says Kloudya Molina. Kloudya is an International Business major in her junior year. She has held internships at the United Nations, with fashion designer Lisa Curran, and at a marketing firm, HarrisonRand. She created her own fashion and design business, Kloudya.com. She is an assistant tennis coach for the Passaic Valley boys team, and gives private tennis lessons in the summers. At Ramapo, Kloudya is a member of the International Business Club, the Finance Club, and a number of honor societies. “I want to take my knowledge and apply it to the business world, helping other businesses,” she says.


2012 Recipients

Nikil Bhatia

Nikil Bhatia is a junior from Hasbrouck Heights, NJ majoring in Finance and Economics with a minor in Political Science. He has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, New Jersey Cares and served as a tutor for high school students. He is a member of the Finance Club, The Fed Challenge and the Student Investment Management Fund. Nikil hopes to enter the world of corporate finance and eventually start his own charitable foundation.

This scholarship will help me take more classes over the summer so that I can complete my Finance/Economics degree sooner. Thank you so much for your generosity!

Aleksandar Mojsoski

Aleksandar Mojsoski of Garfield, NJ is a Finance major and an Accounting minor. Aleksandar came to the United States at the age of 21 from the Republic of Macedonia. At his first job he barely had enough to cover the cost of rent and food. There were days he drank as much of the free soda he was allowed at work to fill his stomach. He used the last of his money to move to northern New Jersey and put his dreams to obtain a college degree on hold and worked two jobs to support himself. He enrolled at a community college so he would be able to take night classes and maintain his two jobs. The adult learner transferred to Ramapo and plans to graduate in January 2013. Aleksandar says, “Being relatively new in this country has not only offered financial and academic challenges, but has made me appreciate the value of a college education.” Aleksandar, who has a 3.88 grade point average, plans to sit for the CPA. He would also like to attend graduate school.


Petar Dobrev

Petar Dobrev is an international student in his junior year. He is an Economics major and Mathematics minor. Petar is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society and the International Student Organization. He plans to continue his education and upon graduation enter a Ph.D. program in Economics.

Ashley Gathers

Ashley Gathers of Passaic, NJ is an International Business major with a 3.29 grade point average. “College expanded my curiosity to learn about various cultures and countries,” the senior says. Ashley completed a semester abroad in Spain and a cultural immersion program in the Dominican Republic. On campus Ashley is a member of the Black Student Union, Ramapo Operation Link Up, Ramapo Readers and Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society. She has participated in the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, Operation Link Up College PrepWorkshop, Freshmen Checkin, Oktoberfest and the First Annual Newark Public High Schools College Fair. Ashley says, “I have become a self-made woman, concerned with the determination to set positive examples through my behavior, decisions and goals.”

Rudina Kajacka

Rudina Kajacka of Garfield, NJ is a Business Administration major and an Accounting minor. She is a member of the United Nations Club, Math Club, International Student Organization, Accounting Club and Finance Club. Rudina was inducted into Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, Chi Alpha Epsilon Honor Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Rudina has a mission for each day. It is to “cherish my family and friends, improve myself personally and professionally so that I can advance within my educational development, lead a successful career that I will enjoy and take on any challenges that come my way.” Rudina has a 3.56 grade point average.

Valensiya Tsvetanova

Valensiya Tsvetanova is a senior from Bulgaria who came to the United States six years ago as an exchange student, and was placed in Elkhart, Indiana. Valensiya is majoring in Accounting and Law and Society, and is involved in many campus organizations and projects. Projects have included Alternative Spring Break, treasurer of three student clubs, Model UN, and Students for Free Enterprise. Valensiya plans to enter law school and earn an MBA at the same time.



2010 Recipients

Kaitlyn Hrdy

In her first year at Ramapo Kaitlyn Hrdy has earned an impressive grade point average of 3.95. She is in Alpha Lambda Delta, the freshman honor society, and will be inducted this spring into Delta Mu Delta, the business honor society. She is an active member of the Irish-American Club and the Dance Club. Kaitlyn is from Dover, NJ.


Delina Agnosteva

Delina Agnosteva, of Bulgaria, is majoring in Economics and International Business. She’s completed internships at Pearson Education, Alternative Assets Investment Management and The Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria. In addition, she serves as treasurer of the Math and Finance clubs, secretary of the International Business Club and handes public relations for the Model United Nations Club. She also competed in the NewYork Mercantile Exchange Open Outcry and served on the Anisfield School of Business Student Advisory Board. Delina, who is enrolled in the College Honors Program, has a 3.97 grade point average. At Ramapo, she says, “I found a path that will utilize my inquisitive nature and will satiate my curiosity and drive for knowledge.” She plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Economics.

I will use the scholarship I have received to take extra classes at Ramapo, which I believe will help me get accepted into a good Master’s of Economics or International Business Program.


2009 Recipients

Rachel Berry

Rachel Berry is a senior majoring in business administration with a concentration in management. She has earned a 3.71 grade point average. Rachel works at LC Marketing Communications as a marketing assistant and intern, and works on campus for the Women’s Center. She is a member of a number of student clubs including Feminists United, Organization for African Unity, the Weekend Events Committee, and the Concert Core Committee. She has been an active volunteer, and participated in the alternative spring break program last year in Mexico. The marketing faculty has commended Rachel’s “extraordinary conscientiousness and analytical and creative skills.” Rachel is from Newark, New Jersey.


Sarah Warren

Sarah Warren, a Business Administration/ Finance major from Belle Mead, NJ is passionate about her studies and humanitarian causes. The senior, who has a grade point average of 3.84, is proud of her induction into Delta Mu Delta National Business Honor Society. As president of the Operation Smile Student Association, she helped organize numerous fundraisers. Sarah believes it is imperative to make a difference through action and particularly enjoys working as a tutor for the Office of Specialized Services.
