Seminara Family Scholarship

Make a Donation

The Seminara Family endowment fund will create a lasting legacy at Ramapo for future generations of students. Peter Seminara ’00 graduated from Ramapo with a degree in Economics and has been active at Ramapo as a student, alumnus, mentor, employer and member of the Foundation Board of Governors.  He served as Vice President of the College Alumni Association and is currently an Alumni Board member.  In his role on the Board of Governors he has been actively involved in the College’s fundraising initiatives, including the Annual Golf Outing, Distinguished Citizen’s Dinner and other events. Mr. Seminara has also helped Ramapo students find co-ops and internships.  In 2018 was honored at the Distinguished Citizens Dinner.

The Seminara Family Scholarship is for a student wanting to pursue a career in finance, economics, or other business-related discipline.

  • GPA of 3.0 or greater
  • Preparing to enter field of Finance, Economics or other business endeavor
  • Students must be in good academic standing
  • Selected by the Office of Enrollment Management and Institutional Advancement

This scholarship is not awarded through the application process.


2024 Recipient

Shannon Burns

Shannon Burns of Park Ridge, N.J. is a Finance major with a minor in Business Analytics. She has a GPA of 3.74, on the Dean’s List, and a member of the Beta Gamma Sigma National Business Honor Society. Shannon is also the Chapter President of the Chi Alpha Sigma National College Athlete Honor Society on campus.

At Ramapo, Shannon is involved in various clubs on campus, including Women in Business, the women’s basketball team, and Student Athlete Advisory Committee. She was also selected as an Academic All-District athlete for her dedication in the classroom. 

Shannon served as an intern at Valley Bank where she was able to work in a hands-on environment and learn every day. She also worked with the NJ Bankers Association to learn more about banking and meet influential figures in the financial industry. Shannon has also held a part-time job at Wegmans for the past 6 years. 

After graduation, Shannon plans to pursue graduate school and find a career that allows her to grow both professionally and personally. 


2023 Recipient

Alisa Varughese

Alisa Varughese of Bergenfield, N.J. is a Finance Major. She has a 3.98 GPA and has made the Dean’s List every semester.

At Ramapo, Alisa has been active in several activities including the Honors Program and South Asian Club where she acts as an E-Board Member. She also works part-time at the Cahill Career Center with the Student Assistant Program to help on-campus student employees.

“I’m extremely fortunate to be learning such comprehensive business knowledge through the Anisfield School of Business curriculum, and I feel confident the skills I acquire will be valuable in whichever path I choose to go” says Alisa.

After graduation, she looks forward to joining the finance industry and plans to pursue her MBA after gaining more experience.


2022 Recipient

Matthew Wisneski

Matthew Wisneski of Pequannock, N.J. is a Finance major with a minor in Economics. He has a 3.95 GPA and is proud to have made the Dean’s List every semester. 

He is a member of the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, the Omicron Delta Kappa Leadership Honor Society, and the Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honor Society. 

At Ramapo, Matthew has been active in several organizations and activities including the Honors Program, Concert Band, and the Roadrunner Financial Group (RFG). He serves as the Secretary of RFG and is an investment committee member with the fund. 

Matthew has also been involved in off-campus activities and organizations, including most recently working as an intern with the Teachers’ Retirement System of the City of New York in the Loan/Tax-Deferred Annuities department.

“I am intensely passionate about finance and look forward to starting a career in the finance industry after graduation,” says Matthew.


2021 Recipient

Jared Powers

Jared Powers of Ridgewood, N.J. is a freshman Finance Major and a member of the Men’s Basketball team. During high school Jared coached basketball for special needs children at Ridgewood Biddy Basketball Association and he raised money for Wells Bring Hope to build a fresh drinking water well in an African village.

 

 


2020 Recipient

Ahmet Hakan Ersan

Ahmet Hakan Ersan of Fort Lee, N.J. is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Finance. Hakan is a member of Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society and the Dean’s Advisory Council.

Haken is in Alpha Kappa Psi, the business fraternity, and represents his chapter at the Professional Fraternity Council. He is also a Commuter Mentor through Commuter Affairs, is a member of Enactus and the Ramapo Financial Group.

Off-campus, he’s worked as a research assistant and online college counselor for Univresal Cousnelor. In addition, he previously completed an internship at Cliffside Park Chamber of Commerce.

He has a 3.6 GPA and has made the Dean’s List



2019 Recipient

Ryan Greff

Ryan Greff of Fair Lawn, N.J. is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Information Technology Management. He has a 4.0 GPA.  He is a member of the Alpha Lamba Delta Honor Society, the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and the Golden Key Honor Society.

Ryan has been active in several organizations on campus, including the Ramapo College Foundation Board of Governors, Student Government Association, Anisfield School of Business Dean’s Advisory Council, and the President’s Committee for Campus Sustainability.

He serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 53, as well as a Merit Badge Counselor. He is also an intern for the NJ Small Business Development Center.

Ryan is proud of his work in the Student Government Association. As a Senator-at-Large, he has successfully increased commuter representation on campus by working to add commuter advisory seats on the President’s Advisory Council and Library Learning Commons Task Force. He led the creation of the Commuter Overnight Housing Program. He has also worked to obtain volt-chargers for the Potter Library, passed Student Government legislation that aims to increase the recycling rate on campus and regulate the organization’s use of Styrofoam, and worked with the financial aid office to increase private scholarship opportunities for students.

After Ramapo, Ryan plans to work as a force to help grow small business in New Jersey.



2018 Recipients

Achyut Gautam

Achyut Gautam of Nepal is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Mathematics and Economics. He has a 3.8 GPA and is part of the Honors Program.

He has been extremely active in several organizations on campus, including Student Government Association (SGA), Board of Trustees, Dean’s Advisory Council, and Civic and Community Engagement Center. He is currently serving as a research assistant in the Anisfield School of Business where he assists faculty in designing econometric models.

Achyut studied abroad in Milan, Italy in fall of 2017, and has also traveled to Ghana as part of the SGA exchange program. He was one of the recipients of the “Outstanding Leadership by a Sophomore” award and was also selected by the Dean of ASB for the Seminara Memorial Award.  “After graduation, I am determined to make financial markets more efficient, transparent, and accessible to all people.”

Drew Bendel

Drew Bendel of Bloomingdale, NJ is a Business Administration major with a concentration in Finance.  He has a 3.025 GPA.

At Ramapo, Drew has been active in several organizations and activities.  He is aspires to become a member of the Alpha Epsilon Pi fraternity and is the designated note taker in multiple classes.

Drew is an active blood donor for the New York Blood Center and works during the summer as a camp counselor at Tamarack Day Camp in Randolph, NJ.



2015 Recipient

Charles Schreiber

Charlie Schreiber of Woodcliff Lake, N.J., is a finance major and an economics minor. He has a 3.7 grade point average and is a member of the Golden Key Honors Society.

At Ramapo, Charlie has been active in several organizations and activities, including Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity, and the Ramapo Rock Climbing Team.

Charlie has also been involved in off –campus activities and organizations, including: being an athlete and ambassador for The North Face, and running his company InvestorsCorner.org.



2014 Recipient

Jonathan Adam

Jonathan Adam of Piscataway, NJ is an Economics major. His goal is to travel the world and experience different cultures. “I hope to define my life by the size of my impact on others rather than the size of my wallet,” he said. He said receiving the scholarship reaffirmed his selfconfidence. “I look at college as an investment in my future and by receiving this scholarship I know that I am making a good investment in myself.” Jonathan has a 3.92 grade point average.
