George T. Potter
President

George Potter, founding president of Ramapo College, was born in London, England and was graduated from Oxford University. He has had extensive background in university teaching and administration and has brought an innovative approach to liberal arts education to the Mahwah campus. His goal during the past ten years has been to encourage every student at Ramapo to achieve intellectual independence through education. The success of both Ramapo’s academic organization and programs has been cited nationwide.

“Our first decade was a period of campus development and basic program building. Now that we have a fine campus and a well-established academic reputation, Ramapo will flourish as a center of liberal education in the 1980s as we overcome new challenges brought about by changing educational priorities and new societal concerns”

Pamela Bischoff
Associate Dean for Student Life

Ms. Bischoff has worked with Ramapo students since 1971 when she joined the college staff as a counselor. Two years later, she became director of career planning and placement, assistant dean of students in 1978, and in 1981, Ms. Bischoff was appointed associate dean. During the past 10 years, Dean Bischoff has come to know many Ramapo students as a friend, advisor, and administrator.

Ms Bischoff received a B. A. from Simmons College and an M. A. in student personnel administration from Columbia University where she is currently a doctoral candidate.

“lt’s encouraging for me to see how many students use our division’s services and programs. We want students to learn intellectually, personally, and socially. College should be a time to explore one‘s self, relationships, career possibilities, and to participate in many out-of-class activities. Students should avail themselves of the opportunity while they can. Our 10 offices in the Division of Student Life stand ready to help.”

Anne Glickman
Associate Professor of Law

A graduate of NYU School of Law, Ms. Glickman joined the Ramapo faculty in 1973. She has taught a variety of courses dealing with social sciences and public policy including family law, criminal law, law and literature, and Constitutional law. Currently in private practice, Ms. Glickman is the founder and first director of the Rockland County Legal Aid Society.

“My educational goal is to make the process and substance of law accessible to our students. My courses provide students with the knowledge of the legal dimension of the society in which they live. Our pre-law students are offered the opportunity to identify their legal interests, and our other students are given the tools to enter occupations allied to the social sciences such as mental health and social workers and probation officers, or to further their academic careers in graduate school ”

Robert Shine
Professor of Chemistry

A graduate of Pennsylvania State University where he received a Ph. D. in chemistry, Dr. Shine has conducted extensive research in the field of natural and synthetic drugs. His comprehensive work was recognized by the American Chemical Society through the award of a special research grant. A former captain in the U.S. Army, Dr. Shine was elected director of the School of Theoretical and Applied Science in 1981 — the same year he was named to the New Jersey Panel of Science Advisors. Dr. Shine also serves as a member of the safety committee of the New York section of the American Chemical Society.

“We have excellent faculty and facilities in the School of Theoretical and Applied Science, allowing us to give students a good foundation in biology, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, mathematics, physics, and psychology.

“The school’s size is such that we can offer individual attention and independent study projects, and our new equipment is capable of performing sophisticated experiments and research.

“Our real success, however, is measured by our graduates. It is a great source of personal satisfaction when l talk with our alumni who have made major contributions as physicians, teachers, research scientists, lawyers, and health care professionals”
