Welcome to Ramapo College! We are so glad that you have chosen Ramapo and are excited to welcome you to our Roadrunner community. Welcome Week is a week of activities to help you transition to Ramapo College, participate in our storied traditions and get to meet other students.

Events designated with “Arch Event” are considered the mandatory events for new students.

To prepare for Welcome Week be sure to review the schedule below and download the Ramapo College Archway App from the Apple store or Google Play to be able to check in for the events as they occur. There is no need to register for Welcome Week events in advance in Archway.

New students and their families are invited to join the fun with our Welcome Barbecue and Carnival! The Carnival includes fun for all ages including inflatables, games and a free barbecue! If your check-in time is mid to late afternoon and you want to enjoy the barbeque and carnival first, please park across the street near the tennis courts and walk to the Bandshell Lawn to enjoy the fun!

Annual New Student Assembly “Arch Event”
Time: 5:15pm-6:00pm
Location: Bradley Center Arena
Students and families will receive an official welcome to Ramapo, including remarks from Dr. Cindy R. Jebb, President of Ramapo College; Dr. Christopher Romano, Vice President for Strategic Enrollment, Outreach and Engagement, Joseph Connell, Assistant Vice President for Student Success and Shannon DeCicco, Student Government Association President.  The Alma Mater is being sung by Lindsey Ruggiero ’24.

Annual Arching Ceremony “Arch Event”
Time: 6:00pm-7:00pm

Location: Arch
Students and families join us for this Ramapo College tradition where all new students proceed through the Arch and are greeted by President Jebb. On the eve of Commencement, students will process through the Arch and down Mansion Road, cheered on by family, faculty and staff to signify the completion of your undergraduate experience.

This event happens rain or shine please be prepared.  Guests are allowed to view the ceremony by lining the sides of Mansion Road.  Please note during the ceremony no guests are permitted in the courtyard by the arch.

Meet your Peer Facilitators and First Year Seminar classmates and get to know them.  Work together with these new classmates as you complete a series of activities to develop your leadership skills.

What’s My Role on Campus – Part 1 “Arch Event”

  • GROUP A – Trustees Pavilion: Shifting Gears: The Blunt Truth about Marijuana and Driving: This workshop will explore the impact of marijuana and alcohol on the developing brain, explain the physical and cognitive processes that are affected  and discuss the potential consequences that can occur related to driving. This presentation will also review Ramapo’s Code of Conduct as it relates to alcohol and marijuana policies and discuss expectations, roles, and responsibilities as members of the Ramapo community.
  • GROUP B – Sharp Theater, Berrie Center: SCREAM Theater: “Students Challenging Realities and Educating Against Myths” This peer education group uses improvisational theater to educate about issues of sexual and relationship violence, stalking and harassment with a focus on bystander intervention and the understanding that the crime of sexual violence is a community issues.  SCREAM is designed to model positive bystander intervention and primary prevention.
  • GROUP C – Friends Hall, SC 219: Can We Get Along?: Developing Inclusive Leadership Values: Students want to be inclusive but often fear they have to be perfect to do so. In addition, most students have good intentions but need more tools to bring their inclusive values to life.  In this session Dar Mayweather, a leadership professor, will share thought-provoking and insightful personal stories of inclusive leadership failures and successes. Side-By-Side Burn Demonstration and Snack Break!
Time: 4:30pm-5:15pm
Location: Cherry Lane (Outside of the Bradley Center)
Meet up with your new friends and classmates for a treat and watch a Side-By-Side Burn Demonstration! In the demonstration there are two “rooms”— both furnished as a typical dorm room. The difference is that one of the rooms has a smoke alarm, while the other has a smoke alarm and a single sprinkler head. See what can happen before a fire department typically arrives on scene.

Student Involvement Fair and Global Opportunities Fair “Arch Event”

The Student Involvement Fair is designed to give new students the opportutnity to learn more about Ramapo’s clubs and organizations.  More than 100 clubs and organizations, nearly 30 fraternities and sororities, and campus partners from community and civic engagement will be present.  Rain date: Thursday, August 31st, 1pm
