Shannon Jirkovsky

“As an International Studies major with minors in Anthropology and Human Rights & Genocide Studies, I was naturally drawn to Ramapo’s study abroad program. I spent a semester in Paris, France, living with an amazing host family where I was not only able to improve my French but also experience the beauty and culture that makes Paris one of the most enchanting cities in the world. My semester in Osaka, Japan, was immensely rewarding for me but a very different experience because it pushed me outside of my comfort zone. These experiences, in addition to my regular coursework, taught me responsibility and independence, as well as increased my self-confidence. I firmly believe that you have to be outside of your comfort zone to grow as a person, and that study abroad has been the greatest thing I’ve ever done.” – Shannon Jirkovsky ’16 worked as the Convening Student Liaison for the International Studies major and was a three-year staff member for the Center for Student Involvement.
