Ramapo Success Story

“While pursuing a degree in Sociology at Ramapo, I also was (unknowingly) finding a passion for student services. At Ramapo, I was a tour guide, helping prospective students discover if our campus was the right place for them. Even though it meant some early weekend mornings, I truly enjoyed showing others the place that I was proud to call home. I also had the opportunity to intern at a food bank in Mahwah. Thanks to encouragement from my advisor, Dr. Frundt, I applied to a local graduate program and earned a graduate assistantship and graduated with an M.A. in Sociology. At first I was unsure where I wanted my career to take me – but one day, the light bulb suddenly went on! Those years of giving tours at Ramapo struck a chord with me, and I found myself applying for jobs in higher education. My first job involved registration and student advising, and it stuck. I am now, with more than ten years of experience under my belt, an Assistant Dean at Rutgers University, where I help students with registration, advising and navigating college. It is an incredibly rewarding career, and I can thank Ramapo for leading me on this path!” – Michelle Neumyer ’04 graduated summa cum laude with a degree in Sociology and went on to receive her M.A. in Sociology from William Paterson University in 2006. While at Ramapo, Michelle was a Presidential Scholar and worked for the Admissions office. Michelle also had an internship with the Mahwah Food Bank. Michelle is now an Assistant Dean (Academics) at Rutgers University.
