Ramapo Success Story

“La posibilidad de realizar un sueño es lo que hace que la vida sea interesante.” -Paolo Coelho, El Alquimista

“Who I am today was shaped by the opportunities made available to me by Ramapo’s convenient location, services, programs, and guidance from professors.

Spanish Language Studies was the perfect major for my undergraduate career because having a bachelor’s degree and fluency in Spanish opens doors to a lot of different fields. So far, my career has been mostly in the field of education because I enjoy helping younger generations prepare to thrive in and contribute to our society. During my years at Ramapo, I had an internship as an assistant to the Community Officer of the Puerto Rican Federal Affairs Administration in Manhattan – a position that really sparked another career interest: public diplomacy. I want to be able to use my written and verbal communication skills in both Spanish and English to help people like I did during that internship.

Currently, I am doing just that as the Bilingual Family Liaison at a middle school in the South Valley of Albuquerque. I’m in charge of Family Engagement and monthly Roadrunner Food Bank distributions at our school; I translate for parents and staff members; and I connect students/families in need with resources and/or donations. After school, I teach Service Learning at an elementary school that is also in the South Valley.

I love the work I’m doing and I feel like I’m on the right track with my career. I know that whether I continue or I decide to pursue a future in another field, such as public diplomacy, I have been well-prepared to do so.” – Emily Gang ’15 graduated with a degree in Spanish Language Studies and a Teacher Education Certification.
