Ramapo Success Story

“I studied abroad in South India during the Spring 2014 semester. Studying abroad was the best decision I have ever made. Studying abroad is a transformative experience and is a journey of self-discovery. India is place where one can get out of their comfort zone and gain a different perspective on life, as well as a new way of thinking. The India program is a very unique experience. I was able to apply what I learned in the classroom to my day-to-day experiences. I also conducted field research in an area related to my career aspirations, namely, working with refugees. My field research focused on Tibetan youth in exile, which further cemented my interest in doing this work. When I first visited, I was stunned by the richness of the land, by its lush beauty and exotic architecture, by its ability to overload the senses with the pure, concentrated intensity of its colors, smells, tastes and sounds. To paraphrase Keith bellows of the National Geographic Society, I had been seeing the world in black and white and, when brought face-to-face with India, experienced everything re-rendered in brilliant Technicolor.” – Andreina Sanatamaria ‘16 graduated with a degree in International Studies and a minor in Human Rights and Genocide Studies.
