This recommended graduation plan is designed to provide a blueprint for students to complete their degrees on time. These plans are the recommended sequences of courses. Students must meet with their Academic Advisor to develop a more individualized plan to complete their degree.
NOTE: This recommended Graduation Plan is applicable to students admitted into the major during the 2025-2026 academic year.

NOTE: CRWT and MATH courses are determined by placement testing and should be taken following the sequence above. HGS School Core Language Proficiency Requirement and Placement.
Total Credits Required: 128 credits
GPA: 2.0
General Education courses can be done in any order with the exception of INTD 101, CRWT and MATH. Those three general education courses will need to be done first. First Year Seminar is taken in the first semester. Failure to complete CRWT and MATH will result in a hold when the student hits 64 credits. Global Awareness: Recommended: (LITR 203 - METHODS OF LITERARY STUDY) or Honors Global Awareness
Culture and Creativity :(Consider LITR 220 - SURVEY OF AMERICAN LITERATURE: PRE-COLUMBIAN TO ROMANTIC; LITR 221 - SURVEY OF AMERICAN LITERATURE: ROMANTIC TO CONTEMPORARY; LITR 224 - AMERICAN DRAMA; LITR 244 - SHAKESPEARE'S PLAYS; LITR 245 - AMERICAN WOMEN WRITERS: DIVERSE VOICES; LITR 280 - INTRODUCTION TO CREATIVE WRITING; LITR 284 - PERSONAL ESSAY: CREATIVE WRITING WORKSHOP; LITR 292 - TOPICS IN AMERICAN POETRY; LITR 293 - STUDIES IN AMERICAN FICTION; LITR 295 - TOPICS IN POPULAR LITERATURE; OR LITR 308 - CHILDREN'S AND YOUNG ADULT LITERATURE)
+W: Students transferring in with 48 or more credits are waived from these general education requirements.
At least three (3) courses in the major must be at the 300-level
^Only two GenEd courses may double count for the major. For GenEd Distribution courses, one course MUST be taken outside of HGS.
