FYS Class:
Class of: 2028
Major/Minor: Mathematics
Resident/Commuter: Resident
Favorite Class: My favorite class I’ve taken thus far at Ramapo is CMPS130-Scientific Problem Solving with Python. The class combines my favorite area of learning–mathematics–with computer programming, a skill I had little experience with previously that I’ve found to be quite fun. Getting my code to run successfully is always such a satisfying feeling and having a professor as wonderful as Dr. Yuster makes it even better!
Favorite Place on Campus: My favorite place on campus is my dorm. It’s easy to get homesick when living on campus, but I’ve decorated and personalized my dorm to the point that it feels like home. My dorm has just about everything I could possibly want in a living space: puzzles, a TV, fun lighting, posters, plenty of snacks, and, most importantly, my best friend!
Clubs/organizations: One organization I am a part of at Ramapo is the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society for first-year academic success. I was also really excited to be a part of Ramapo Pride my freshman year but I ended up only being able to make one meeting throughout both semesters because I always had class at the same time as the meetings :( This year, though, I’ve made it my goal to become a more active member in order to better connect with my fellow LGBTQ+ peers! I have also, in my time at Ramapo, found myself at a Trading Card Game Club meeting and a Dance Company class.
Future Plans: One future plan I look forward to is choreographing and teaching summer classes at the dance studio I used to compete with before graduating high school. Last summer I taught contemporary and hip hop classes; this summer I’m hoping to add a jazz heels class to that list. I also look forward to working for the Monmouth County Park System, as I have done the past few summers.
Favorite Inspirational Quote: My favorite motivational quote, as said by Rupaul at the end of every Drag Race episode, is “If you can’t love yourself, how…are you gonna love somebody else?”
Advice for First-Year Students: A piece of advice I have for first-year students is to establish a daily and/or weekly routine as early on in the semester as possible. Having a routine to follow allows you to optimize your time and reduce your stress levels as you navigate the academic and social complexities of college life.
